This image was captured in the Town of Byron area, however, keep in mind this subject could be from anywhere in Big Horn County, or a neighboring county.

***PHONE SERVICES RESTORED 8/22/2026 10:00PM***

All administrative lines and 911 lines have been successfully restored.

The issue was found to be a damaged fiber line in between Cody and Powell. Lumen technicians diagnosed and re-spliced the fiber.

All services restored. Thank you all for your patience.

Please utilize 911 for any emergency and the Sheriffs Office Phone Number 307-568-2324 for any non-emergency law enforcement requests.

Our phone lines, both administrative and 911 are still impacted and down.

Its important to note that our voice 911 calls are forwarded to Washakie County Sheriffs Office. We couldnt be more thankful for the Washakie County Dispatchers!

We ARE still able to receive Text to 911.

Lumen, a provider of telecommunications to the Big Horn Basin, is experiencing faults in a fiber line. They have had crews testing and diagnosing and testing all night and are still trying to pinpoint the affected strands.

***UPDATE 8/21/2026, 6:00PM***

BHCSO phone lines are still down. All 911 and asministrative phone lines are still not currently working.

We have been told from our phone provider TCT West, that there provider, LUMEN has identified a fault within the transmission path.

We were provided no current estimated time of restoration.

Our 911 phone lines are currently being answered by the Washakie County Sheriffs Office Communications Center. Please dial 911 for any emergency and dispatchers will route the call to the appropriate agency.

For non emergency needs please call 307-272-4826.

We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

The Big Horn County Sheriffs Office phone lines, administrative and 911 services are currently down for unknown reasons.

911 services will be forwarded to the Washakie County Sheriffs Office.

Our dispatch center can be reached via cell phone at 307-272-4826 until services are restored for any emergent or non emergent needs.

We are working with our providers to determine the issue and get it resolved as soon as possible.

***Power Outage, Town of Basin***
Town of Basin Power Customers, the Town of Basin is experiencing a power outage.

The Town Power Crew has been notified. We have no estimated time of Power restoration.

Our communication center is being inundated with phone calls. If we receive any updates we will update you here. Please try and refrain from calling the dispatch center or Basin Police Department non emergency line unless you have an emergency or need to speak with an officer.

Byron Fireworks – July 11, 2026

If you plan to attend the Byron Fireworks show, please celebrate responsibly and help make it a safe, enjoyable event for everyone.

Most importantly, DO NOT cross or try to drive around road blocks, they are there for everyone's safety. Do NOT walk through ANY orange fencing. These areas are totally off limits to vehicle and foot traffic as this is a hot zone area.

- Pets are NOT permitted in the park. Only service dogs are allowed.
- Open containers are permitted; however, law enforcement officers may check identification when necessary to ensure compliance with the law.
- Following the fireworks, please be patient and respectful of the volunteers directing traffic. They are donating their time to help everyone leave safely and efficiently.

Fireworks are allowed in town limits until midnight.
