This week while our Sustainability Committee was participating in the annual Alewife fish count training at Seal Cove Pond, a participant spotted an injured osprey hunched over on the rock, it was checked on the following morning and s/he was still there, alive, in the exact same location. Acadia Wildlife was contacted by our Sustainability Committee Chair Sarah White, and she directed Sarah to Chip McKnight, an agent of the newly created wildlife rescue arm of the ME Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife. He promptly came out to the spillway and quickly netted the osprey then transported him/her to the Maine Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Old Town. It’s the closest wildlife rehab center with a licensed wildlife vet. The news just reached us that the osprey has a fractured clavicle and slight eye inflammation, that has a positive likely outcome as the clavicle can be fixed through surgery. we will know and share more in a couple of days.
