Our Banking Buddies students recently had an incredible opportunity to go behind the scenes at First National Bank of Bastrop and explore the many roles that keep a bank running. 💵💰

Throughout the day, students gained valuable lessons in financial literacy, leadership, teamwork, and the important role community banks play in serving others.

They also heard words of encouragement from First National Bank of Bastrop President & CEO Stephen Lee, Bastrop ISD Superintendent Dr. Kristi Lee, City of Bastrop TX - City Government Mayor Ishmael Harris, and Assistant City Manager Chief Andreas Rosales, who shared insights about leadership, service, and the importance of continuing to learn and grow.

A special thank you to First National Bank of Bastrop for partnering with Bastrop ISD to make this meaningful experience possible, and to McDonald's of Bastrop (Kinney Restaurant Management, Inc.) for treating our students to lunch and a fun surprise visit from the Hamburglar. We also want to recognize our Bastrop ISD Community Relations Department for coordinating this experience and bringing together community partners who help create meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for our students.

We're grateful for the businesses, community leaders, and Bastrop ISD staff who continue to invest in our students and help prepare them for bright futures.

This week, Bastrop ISD was proud to host more than 300 school-based law enforcement professionals from across Texas for SBLE (School-Based Law Enforcement) training.

Participants completed introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses focused on school safety, emergency preparedness, student well-being, threat response, and creating positive learning environments. We were honored to welcome agencies from across the state, including Snyder Police, Newton ISD PD, Lancaster ISD PD, Galveston ISD, and officers with firsthand experience responding to the Uvalde school tragedy.

Bastrop ISD CTE staff, Workforce Solutions, and TCS Mechanical continue to work within the strategic partnership designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the skilled trades for students of BISD. This summer, from June 3-July 31, students are participating in a dedicated internship program hosted by TCS Mechanical that provides an immersive look into professional industry standards and career exploration.

A cornerstone of this collaboration is providing students with direct access to trade-based career pathways. Participants recently conducted high-impact site visits to the IBEW Local 520 training facility, the SMART Local 67 Training Center, and the Local 286 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. During these visits, students engaged directly with union leadership and members to better understand post-high school apprenticeships, essential qualifications, and the vast career growth potential within the trades. These hands-on experiences ensure that Bastrop ISD students are not only gaining technical skills but are also building the professional networks necessary for long-term success.
