Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties

Children's Advocacy Center Serving Bastrop, Lee & Fayette Counties The Children’s Advocacy Center exists to provide a coordinated, multi-disciplinary approach to the problem of child abuse in our community.

We aspire to reduce trauma, seek justice, and foster healing and empowerment to child victims of abuse and their non-offending families and caregivers. Our vision is to facilitate the collaboration with agency professionals from Law Enforcement, Child Protection, Prosecution and Medical to assess and support abused children and their non-offending family members. The Children’s Advocacy Center sta

rted in Bastrop in a small rented house in 1992. A veteran Child Protective Services (CPS) worker volunteered her time and efforts to keep the Center operational. In 2000, the Center purchased, renovated, and moved into a historic house centrally located to Child Protective Services, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office, the Bastrop Police Department, and the Bastrop County Courthouse. In 2002, the Center officially expanded and changed its name to the Children’s Advocacy Center serving Bastrop, Lee, and Fayette Counties. In 2003, to better meet the growing needs of our service area, the Center purchased a second facility adjacent to the main house which is used solely for therapy services. In 2005, the Center became nationally accredited and its in-house SANE program became fully operational. In 2021, the Children's Advocacy Center moved to its current location in Central Bastrop, doubling its footprint and creating the opportunity to not only provide more services, but enhancing the services already provided. The new location includes a permanent, on-site medical suite, a therapeutic wing, and a dedicated family advocacy food and clothing pantry. The Center provides Forensic Interviews, Victim Advocacy, Therapeutic Services and facilitation with 24 Multidisciplinary (MDT) professionals from law enforcement, CPS, Medical, and District/County Attorney’s in the 3 county service area. We are the only agency that provides these services in Bastrop, Lee and Fayette counties, in a neutral, child-friendly setting. Services are provided free of charge and in English and Spanish.

💙Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

At the Children’s Advocacy Center, we meet children and teens during some of the hardest moments of their lives. We see how much it matters when a child knows they don’t have to carry hard things alone.

A safe adult who listens. A counselor who creates space to heal. A community that notices. A conversation that says, “You matter, and I’m here.”

This year’s call to action is “Start the Conversation.”

Because connection matters. Asking for help matters. And every child deserves to know there are people ready to listen. 🫶🏼

Fifteen years ago, the Bastrop County Complex Fire changed our community forever.

Beginning Labor Day weekend in September 2011, the fires destroyed homes, displaced families, altered our landscape, and left a mark on Bastrop County that can still be felt today.

But that is not the whole story of Bastrop.

In the years that followed, we also witnessed extraordinary resilience, a community showing up for one another, rebuilding what was lost, and finding a way forward after devastation.

At the Children’s Advocacy Center, we see resilience take root in a different way every day.

The children who walk through our doors have experienced trauma no child should have to carry. Our work cannot undo what happened to them. But with safety, support, advocacy, and healing, we can help give children and families what they need to move forward.

Resilience doesn’t mean something difficult didn’t leave a mark. It means that mark doesn’t have to define what comes next.

As we remember the Bastrop County Complex Fire and honor all that our community endured, we’re also reminded of something Bastrop has shown us again and again:

After trauma, there can be healing.
After loss, there can be rebuilding.
And with the right support, there can be hope for what comes next. ❤️‍🩹💙

💙 September is CPS Appreciation Month at our CAC!💙

We have the privilege of working alongside them as part of our multidisciplinary team, and this month, we want to tell you a little more about the people behind that important work.

Protecting children takes all of us , and that protection doesn’t stop once abuse has occurred.

Through our Child Safety Alliance, our community comes together around the entire continuum of child safety: preventing abuse, recognizing concerns, responding appropriately, and helping children heal.

At the Children’s Advocacy Center, Play Therapy is one of the trauma-informed therapeutic services available to children who have experienced abuse and trauma. In 2025, our CAC provided 2,420 therapy sessions to children across Bastrop, Lee and Fayette Counties.

Sometimes healing looks like talking.
Sometimes it looks like drawing.
Sometimes it looks like dolls, puppets, sand, games or toys.

Every child deserves a community committed not only to keeping them safe , but to helping them find their way back to feeling safe. 💙

All hands in. For children. For healing. For hope.
