Play Streets are pop-up play events that take place in temporarily closed streets, open fields, or parking lots for a specified time period (around 3-5 hours). Play Streets create a safe, publicly accessible space for children, adolescents, and families to engage in active play. By providing these spaces, Play Streets offer physical activity opportunities for children in under-resourced communities that lack safe parks and playgrounds.
The Northeast Region is hosting a training for community leaders interested in incorporating Play Streets as an event in their area. The meeting will take place at 9:30 on September 21, 2021 at the Scott Center in Winnsboro.

Morehouse parish residents are you interested in learning how to manage blood pressure levels through lifestyle changes? Join me for “Break Up With Salt,” a one-hour session taught in a four-part virtual lesson series aimed to help adults at risk for or with hypertension (high blood pressure) manage blood pressure levels through goal setting, diet, nutrition label reading, portion control, and cooking. This series will be held online on Tuesdays starting on August 24th at 11am (CST) and ending on September 14th. The classes are virtual, meaning you can tune in from your own personal computer, phone, or tablet device. The program will be taught by Kimberly Butcher, Assistant Nutrition Agent with the LSU AgCenter.
Lessons include:
August 24th: Detect, Correct, and Protect
August 31st: DASH Diet and Label Reading
September 7th: Virtual Grocery Store Tour
September 14th: Mastering Meals with Flavor
Participants must attend all sessions.
