Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 896 annual Fill the Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy Association.

City of Batavia IAFF Local 896 will be continuing their long-standing tradition as its members host the annual boot drive raising funds to support MDA’s vision to accelerate research, advance care, and advocate for the support of MDA families.

Dedicated fire fighters from Local 896 will hit the streets with boots in hand asking pedestrians, motorists, and other passersby to donate to the MDA on Friday 6/5/26 from 7:30am-2pm, at Main and Court Street, and Ellicott and Court Street in the City of Batavia.

City Fire dispatch to the reported kitchen fire. City Engine 12 and City Squad 13 responded as the FAST - Firefighter Assist and Search Team with a working house fire with smoke showing.

ANNUAL MDA BOOT DRIVE

Professional Fire Fighters IAFF Local 896 annual Fill the Boot Drive for Muscular Dystrophy Association.

City of Batavia IAFF Local 896 will be continuing their long-standing tradition as its members host the annual boot drive raising funds to support MDA’s vision to accelerate research, advance care, and advocate for the support of MDA families.

Dedicated fire fighters from Local 896 will hit the streets with boots in hand asking pedestrians, motorists, and other passersby to donate to the MDA on Friday 6/5/26 from 7:30am-2pm, at Main and Court Street, and Ellicott and Court Street in the City of Batavia.

The partnership between MDA and International Association of Fire Fighters began nationwide in 1954 when the IAFF signed a proclamation designating MDA its charity of choice. Donated funds have helped develop over a dozen FDA-approved drugs for those with neuromuscular disease. Those treatments were created from MDA’s vision to open a new field of medicine and push boundaries.

This week, members of IAFF Local 896 responded to multiple motor vehicle accidents across the City including these two incidents:

- May 11, 2026 – 0910 hrs 2nd Platoon
Walnut St. at S. Main St.
Crews were dispatched to Walnut St. at S. Main St. for a work truck that left the roadway and struck a guardrail and fence. No injuries were reported.

- May 12, 2026 - 0651 hrs 4th Platoon
West Main St. & North Lyon St.
Firefighters also responded to a two-vehicle accident with reported injury and entrapment. Crews worked to stabilize the scene, access the patient, and assist with patient care.

Incidents like these highlight the importance of MVA training and readiness to respond to any situation — from minor accidents to more complex rescue operations.
