Chip In Batavia

Chip In Batavia To support students of BPS101 on free/reduced lunch or in temporary housing situations. CHIP IN BATAVIA stands for Community Helpers Impacting People In Need.
(1)

In October 2013 a concerned resident of Batavia was informed that there were 40+ homeless children attending Batavia Public Schools. According to the BPS101 Director of Student Services/Homeless Liaison, these children were living with their parent(s) at homeless shelters in St. Charles and Aurora, in their cars, in motels (moving constantly to get the best rate) or doubling up with another famil

y. The children often lack the snacks needed to get through the school day, backpacks, school supplies, changes of clothing, shoes, coats etc. We also help students who fall in the low income/free-reduced-fee waiver category. CHIP IN was formed by a group of community members who wanted to aide these children to ensure they are given the best opportunities, given their situations, to meet their full potential during the school day. CHIP IN has continued to grow over these past 9 years, thanks to the support of our community. We have a Chip In liaison that works with each school and we work with the BPS administration staff. They share needs of students and families, and we move very fast to to take care of these needs. We help students on free/reduced lunch and the percentage of students in BPS101 is now over 19%. We can help with many areas: clothing, school supplies, transportation, school activities/clubs/programs, classroom needs, beds/furniture/help finding rentals, gift cards, college and laptop scholarships, support after school mentor program, support social/emotional programs at BHS, RMS and elementary level......we are open to all needs shared by BPS staff members. We buy items needed, and keep a stock of gift cards. Since so many in our community have been so generous, we use our page to share needs that many may want to help with....before we spend our funds. CHIP IN will use this page to keep you updated on current needs and items we are looking for. Please help us spread the word and LIKE us so that you have the most current information. THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL COMMUNITY!

A big, grateful thank you to LEAP for their $5000 grant to be used for summer and school activities for the children of Chip In families. These high school students from the Tri Cities and neighboring communities worked all year to deliver and review proposals, raise funds, work as a team to allocate and deliver these funds. They were led by dedicated and wise mentors and at this young age, have positively affected many.
Not all kids can afford summer swim passes, sports fees, music lessons and a Foam Party at Batavia Apartments. LEAP acknowledged the importance of this. THANK YOU! Best wishes to all LEAP graduates- we have confidence you will go on to do great things!

WOW WOW WOW! Another fun year filled with happy students. So many thank you’s already posted, and we can’t express enough times how grateful we are for the support, donations, help, kindness and support we received from our community. We could not do it without the support, space and help from The Batavia Public Library and all their staff.
Our volunteers gave their time, support, and amazing organizing skills. Our hubbies helped assemble changing rooms, and schlep boxes of dresses back and forth. Our Fire Department moved volumes of donations from the lower to upper level of the library. Our Batavia football team moved everything left at the end of the event back to storage. BPS101 staff delivered all the racks and assembled them. Girl Scout Troops 757 and 890 organized the jewelry for us. Jeffrey Cesario Agency-Farmers Insurance collected jewelry and shoes for us. Misty and Cesar from the Library produced fabulous videos to spread the word. Support Over Stigma and USAgain donated over 200 brand new dresses and over 30 pairs of new/gorgeous shoes. Double Take Consignment in St. Charles donated many short and long dresses. We received many new dresses donated by Special Occasions and Peaches. New make-up was donated by Target and our community, and we received a grant from Meijer. KZ Salon donated 50 gift cards for $15 off! We had 7 amazing seamstresses who helped students with minor repairs and consultations. Limestone kept us full with treats, coffee and tea. And of course…. our amazing community donated hundreds of dresses, shoes, purses, new makeup and jewelry!
….the list goes on!!!!! WE ARE BEYOND GRATEFUL!

LOVE, MELINDA AND JOANNE

It’s the final day of our annual prom dress give a way and our team of enthusiastic volunteers is ready for your shoppers.

We love seeing the joy and hearing the squeals of the girls who look in the mirror and see beauty and the perfect dress.

Joanne and I also love the rotation of volunteers who make it all happen. For us, it is an opportunity to see friends and community members who like us, have been hibernating all winter and the chance to meet some new friends.

Double the joy when we see Moms and Daughters who have planned our event as a day to volunteer together. The Albrecht women (pictured) came out in force and Mom, Judge Sandra Parga and daughter worked together yet another year.

All good! Now let’s get those girls shopping today! Open Noon-3:00!
