In October 2013 a concerned resident of Batavia was informed that there were 40+ homeless children attending Batavia Public Schools. According to the BPS101 Director of Student Services/Homeless Liaison, these children were living with their parent(s) at homeless shelters in St. Charles and Aurora, in their cars, in motels (moving constantly to get the best rate) or doubling up with another famil
y. The children often lack the snacks needed to get through the school day, backpacks, school supplies, changes of clothing, shoes, coats etc. We also help students who fall in the low income/free-reduced-fee waiver category. CHIP IN was formed by a group of community members who wanted to aide these children to ensure they are given the best opportunities, given their situations, to meet their full potential during the school day. CHIP IN has continued to grow over these past 9 years, thanks to the support of our community. We have a Chip In liaison that works with each school and we work with the BPS administration staff. They share needs of students and families, and we move very fast to to take care of these needs. We help students on free/reduced lunch and the percentage of students in BPS101 is now over 19%. We can help with many areas: clothing, school supplies, transportation, school activities/clubs/programs, classroom needs, beds/furniture/help finding rentals, gift cards, college and laptop scholarships, support after school mentor program, support social/emotional programs at BHS, RMS and elementary level......we are open to all needs shared by BPS staff members. We buy items needed, and keep a stock of gift cards. Since so many in our community have been so generous, we use our page to share needs that many may want to help with....before we spend our funds. CHIP IN will use this page to keep you updated on current needs and items we are looking for. Please help us spread the word and LIKE us so that you have the most current information. THANK YOU TO OUR WONDERFUL COMMUNITY!
