04/23/2026

Today at 11am, Batesland VFD was dispatched to a bale processor on fire west of Gordon Junction. BVFD sent three type 6 brush trucks, working alongside Gordon VFD. All units back at station at 12:15pm.

02/02/2026

On Saturday 01/31/2026 at 4pm, Batesland VFD was dispatched to a structure fire at the Wakpamni District Community grounds, sending two water tenders and two brush trucks. Arriving units found a storage building aflame. Working alongside Martin VFD and OST EM, and OST DPS helping with traffic control, the fire was eventually brought under control and units returned to station at 6:30pm.

In addition, on 01/28/2026, BVFD responded to a structure fire at Wakpamni housing, and on 02/01/2026 BVFD responded to a hay bale on fire in a barn loft north of Batesland.

01/22/2026

On 01/21/2026 at 6am, Batesland VFD was dispatched to Kyle for a fire at the senior apartments. BVFD sent a water tender and a brush truck, working alongside OST EM and Martin and Kyle VFDs. Structure was unfortunately a total loss, though no injuries are reported.

12/19/2025

On Wednesday 12/17/2025 at 2pm, Batesland VFD was dispatched to a structure fire 1 mile west of Batesland. BVFD sent two water tenders, working alongside Martin VFD, OST Emergency Management, and Oglala Lakota County Sheriff to contain the fire to a shop and an abandoned farmhouse, fighting strong winds. Unfortunately, both structures were lost. All units returned to station at 5pm.

09/06/2025

On Wednesday 08/27/2025 at 12:30pm, BVFD was dispatched to the Pass Creek Fire in Allen, responding with three Type 6 brush trucks and one water tender, and returning to the fire hall at 6pm.

On Thursday 09/04/2025 at 3:40pm, BVFD was dispatched to the Young Man Fire west of Oglala, responding with one water tender, and returning to the fire hall 7:30pm. Fire burned around 35 acres.

08/14/2025

Batesland VFD had a wonderful time participating in the Bennett County Fair this past weekend, starting with the parade Saturday afternoon and finishing up with the hog wrestle Saturday night, with an impressive time of 21 seconds!

08/09/2025

On Thursday 08/07/2025 at 6pm, BVFD was alerted to a grass fire and bale fire at the Wounded Knee junction. A water tender and brush truck were sent out to the WK18 fire, working alongside BIA Fire and OST Emergency Management to contain the fire. Units returned to the firehall at 10pm.

08/06/2025

On Monday 08/04/2025 at 1:15pm, Batesland VFD was dispatched to a grass fire north of Yellow Bear Canyon in rough and steep terrain. Later in the day, BVFD then responded to a fire at the Batesland garbage dump.

05/13/2025

On Sunday 05/11/2025 at 12pm, Batesland VFD was dispatched to a bale fire 7 miles north of Batesland, sending two engines and two brush trucks. Upon arrival, BVFD encountered several hundred hay bales fully engulfed and spreading into nearby grass, fueled by high winds. Due to the size of the fire, BVFD, aided by Martin and Kyle VFDs, BIA Fire, and OST Emergency Management, were only able to work to contain the grass fire around the bales for several hours. Eventually, the fire intensity dropped enough that a payloader and dozer could be brought in to scatter the remaining burning bales. All units were back at station by 10pm.
