The Tennessee Division of Forestry will not issue burn permits today, 03/26/2026, or tomorrow, 03/27/2026, due to weather conditions. This means no open burning will be allowed. Thank you.

Reminder: a burn permit is REQUIRED from October 15th through May 15th. They can be obtained online at burnsafetn.org. If the fire you have set without a permit crosses over to another land owner causing damage, you will be held liable and fined. Once a permit has been obtained, we ask that you contact Decatur County 911 and advise them of your burn. This allows them to properly dispatch resources to incidents.

Today, around 12 pm, Decatur County Fire Departments Stations 2 and 6 alongside Scott’s Hill Fire and Saltillo Fire responded to a reported structure fire in the residences utility room. First arriving firefighter reported the structure to be fully involved. The residents safely evacuated without any injuries. The cause of the fire appears to be electrical. This is a hard reminder that you check your breaker box when your power gets turned back on to make sure everything is turned to the right place. Thanks to Scott’s hill fire department, Saltillo Fire, Decatur County EMS, Sheriffs Office, and 911 for the response today.

Ice storm update 1/27/2026 5:30 PM

Road Conditions: Most of the main primary roads are passable after sunshine and warmer tempatures today. However, most of the back roads are still impassable without a four-wheel drive. Progress has been made today on trees and debris, however, some roads still have debris and utility lines. Plan on secondary roads being impassable for the next few days due to lingering ice.

Shelter: The shelter is open around the clock at the Decatur County Civic Center at 190 Civic Lane, Parsons. Necessary resources are available for shelter individuals If you are unable to get yourself there, contact non-emergency line 731-852-3911 and someone will attempt to get you there.

Water: Scott’s Hill Water Department was able to start producing water at the Bath Springs plant this evening. Customers in the Bath Springs area may see water return, however, there is still a boil notice in place. Water distribution will be again tomorrow at Station 2 Fire from 11 AM to 3 PM. All other water systems are stable at this time.

Electrical Restoration: LES along with outside agencies continue to work. Follow Lexington Electric System for the latest updates.

Weather Outlook: Tomorrow and Thursday weather will warm during the day, however, re-freeze is expected each night. End of the week and in to the weekend brittle cold air returns.

Emergency personnel are working to respond to all calls, and we appreciate everyone’s patience during this time. We will continue to make updates when available.
