Bath Electric, Gas and Water Systems (BEGWS) is a municipal utility owned by the Village of Bath. BEGWS provides electric, gas, water and sewer services to the Village of Bath residents and a small portion of residents in the Town of Bath. The operation of BEGWS is overseen by the Village of Bath Municipal Utility Commission which consists of five members appointed by the Village of Bath Board of

Trustees. The electric and gas utilities provided by BEGWS are regulated by the New York State Public Service Commission (PSC). The PSC is the public utilities commission of state government that regulates and oversees the electric, gas, water, and telecommunication industries in New York as part of the Department of Public Service. Please know our efforts to replace our infrastructure that was damaged early this morning are counting. Anticipated time for restoration is late afternoon.

Power has been restored to most of our valued customers who have been impacted.

Customers on Haverling Street near Geneva Street and Allen Street, given the damage sustained to our infrastructure, the power will be out for the next few/several hours as we set a new pole and put up the wire spans currently down. Please know our Lineworkers are working as safely and quickly as possible to restore your power.

POTENTIAL FOR DISCOLORED WATER

We are aware of a water leak on East Washington Street Extension near the intersection of Evergreen Street of Lake Country Estates Mobile Home Community. We are working to make the repair as safely and quickly as possible.

At this time we do not anticipate disruptions in water service.

There is a potential for discolored water. Please run cold water for a period of time to ensure your water is clear. Please avoid washing whites during this time.

ENERGY SAVING TIP…EVERY DEGREE MATTERS

Thermostats can be tricky…

You may have set your thermostat to 68° F and not touched it all winter, but the heating system in your home or business may have had to use more energy (e.g., elctricity, natural gas) to maintain that temperature. This depends on the temperatures outside and how well your home or business is insulated to prevent heat loss.

When you are inside and awake, try keeping your thermostat set at 68° F and dress warmly if needed. When you are away, or inside and asleep, try lowering your thermostat to 63-65° F, or maybe even lower.

Adjusting the thermostat can turn into some significant savings on your utility bill!
