Absent any severe weather, the Memorial Day Parade in Bath is scheduled for 10:30am, Monday, May 25th.

The parade forms up at the Smith Tobey Post 21 American Legion on Congress Ave. The route is Lincoln St, Centre St, Front St, and ending at the library where there will be a wreath laying ceremony in City park at the monument there. There will be a brief ceremony at the monument at Centre/High Streets intersection during the parade. The ceremonies may include a three volley salute (blank firing) and the playing of Taps.

This is a somber event to pay our respects to fallen service members. Please be respectful. Flags should be at half-staff from sunrise to noon.

Motorists should prepare for traffic delays and/or temporary detours. No parking will be allowed on the parade route beginning late Sunday night until after the parade (noon on Monday), this includes the portion of Washington St along City Park (at library) in front of the monument.

Animal Control has had several complaints recently.

A friendly reminder that if posted, your pets need to be on a leash at all times. This includes places like Thorne Head Preserve and our cemeteries. This not only keeps people and pets safe but our resident wildlife that is in its nesting and young raising stages of spring. In other unposted areas dogs must be leashed or under voice control and obedient. Always pick up after your pets.

Today is National Peace Officers Memorial Day, in recognition of our country's fallen law enforcement officers.

We remember two of our fallen officers: Constable William Lawrence, EOW Sept. 4 1883, and Sergeant Merle Niles May 29, 1961. Both of these officers were shot and killed in the line of duty protecting the City of Ships.

We also pay respects to fallen Maine Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts, who died earlier this week in an on-duty plane crash, EOW May 12, 2026.

Please take a moment to pay your respects to all our brave men and women in law enforcement who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities.

The weather forecast looks great for this weekend. Downtown Bath will be busy with lots of fun events put on by Main Street Bath and Bath at Play.

One thing to be aware of: there will be a temporary road closure on Sunday, May 17th, 7am to 11am, of Commercial St. starting near the on-ramp to the bridge, up to the intersection with Lambard St.

This closure is to provide a safe area for Bath at Play's Spring Colors Fun Run. In addition to this closure they are also holding a 5k run that will take area streets (Washington, Bowery, Park). These streets will remain open, but motorists are advised to use extra caution and watch for runners.

Attendees to these events may park in the municipal parking lots on Water St.

Well folks, Bath's (unofficial) mayor, Sunshine Larry, decided to conduct a surprise inspection on us yesterday afternoon, first checking out our cruiser fleet, and then our building (inside and out) to make sure things were in order. He noted a couple of minor deficiencies that we'll tighten up (no cat treats), but overall seemed satisfied, and then gracefully posed for a booking photo to commemorate the visit. He then left to continue his downtown foot beat and community engagement activities.

It's nice to know Bath's "mayor" takes his job seriously, helping us to keep the watch and avoid any "catastrophes" due to lack of police preparedness.
