Today, June 15th, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day.

Local law enforcement is committed to investigating crimes against older adults and participate in several organizations to help spread awareness and collaborate responses.

Chief Booth chairs our local Merrymeeting Bay Area Triad organization, which is a collaboration of law enforcement, older adults, and other organizations, serving as an elder abuse task force. He is also a member of the Maine Council for Elder Abuse Prevention and the State's Elder Justice Coordinating Partnership.

One of the goals of these groups is increasing awareness of elder abuse. This can be done in an number of ways, such as giving safety talks, scam presentations, or other education to community groups. We oftentimes collaborate with other groups, such as financial institutions, AARP, Adult Protective Services, and others.

Scams seem to be the biggest issue that come to our attention, oftentimes targeting older adults, but we also see cases of neglect and financial exploitation. These are all areas to watch for, and report. Help us to spread the word and attention to this important topic. Thank you.

Morse High School graduation will take place this Sunday, 6/14/26, at 2pm at McMann field on Congress Ave. Visitors should park in designated areas...the parking lot immediately adjacent to the field is reserved for handicapped parking. There will be a shuttle running between Morse HS parking lot and the field so people can hitch a ride to and from graduation. There is also parking at Bath Middle School, which is a short walk away.

We congratulate the graduating class of 2026! Have a safe and happy graduation and we wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors!

Law Enforcement oftentimes handles cases involving crimes against older adults. These issues can involve intentional or negligent acts that cause harm to older adults and is commonly referred to as "Elder Abuse." We typically see and hear more about financial exploitation of older adults, but do sometimes get cases of neglect or physical abuse.

This coming Monday, June 15th, is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This is an annual day that helps bring attention to these issues to make us more aware and more willing to report them to authorities.

You can find more information on the Maine Council For Elder Abuse Prevention (MCEAP) website, elderabuseprevention.info.
