CONGRATULATIONS, DEPUTY CHIEF SMALL!

The Bath Police Department is proud to announce that Deputy Chief Michelle Small has been selected as the Maine State L.E.A.D. (Law Enforcement Against Drugs & Violence) Instructor of the Year!

This well-deserved honor recognizes Deputy Chief Small’s dedication to the students, schools, and communities she serves. Through L.E.A.D., she has built meaningful relationships with young people while helping empower them to make positive choices, develop important life skills, and make healthy decisions.

We are incredibly proud of the passion and commitment that all of our L.E.A.D. instructors bring to the classroom and to the youth of our community. This recognition is a reflection not only of her work, but of the importance of investing in prevention and building strong relationships between law enforcement and the young people we serve.

We are extremely excited to announce that L.E.A.D. will be back in our schools this year! Our instructors will once again be in the classrooms working alongside students at our local schools, continuing this important prevention program and helping our young people build the skills they need to succeed.

You may have seen some of these signs posted yesterday, as well as some recent traffic calming measures installed near our schools. The school year begins next week and we want to remind drivers to use extra caution and watch for students walking, biking, or riding to school. This means paying extra attention, watching your speed, and no handheld cell phone use. Our patrol officers will be out conducting extra traffic enforcement.

Parents, please remind your children about the safe ways to walk or bike to school. Please be aware of what level e-bike is appropriate for your child (basically, class 1 only as class 2 and 3 require 16yr or up age limit). Bicyclists must follow the same rules of the road as motorists and, if under age 16, must wear a helmet.

There are also several roads in Bath currently undergoing some level of road or utility construction/repair that may affect normal traffic. We will do our best to inform everyone of these projects and any changes ahead of time, but prepare for detours or delays at times.

With one of our detective's recent retirement, we are looking for a new officer to fill our ranks. We're currently hiring for a full-time Patrol Officer and also still looking for a part-time school crossing guard for the High and Richardson St intersection.

Street closure notice for tomorrow, Wednesday, 8/26/26, from 8am to 3pm, for High Street at the intersection Palmer St. This is to finish repairing a water main break from earlier this month.

This is a FULL CLOSURE of High St at this location and will require traffic to detour via the following routes:
• Large truck detour: Washington St to Webber Ave to High St from Route 1 and reverse order from Phippsburg (red route on attached photo)
• Cars/Small Vehicle Detour: South Bound – South St to Washington St to Pine St and reverse order North Bound (blue route on attached photo)

8/19/26 Notice to car owners...over the last week or so we have received a few complaints of items taken out of unlocked cars overnight. These incidents have mostly occurred in apartment complex areas. If anyone has information, contact our patrol division at 443-5563.

Congratulations to Detective Jason Aucoin on his retirement!

Yesterday afternoon we held a "last radio call" ceremony and send-off recognizing his 27 years of dedicated service to the City of Bath as a Bath Police officer.

Detective Aucoin joined the Bath Police Department in July 1999 and graduated from the 92nd Municipal/County Basic Police School in March 2000. He served 23 years in patrol as both an officer and corporal before being promoted to Detective in 2021 and assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division, where he handled numerous complex cases. Throughout his career, he completed specialized training in criminal investigations, community policing, and patrol operations. He also served as an Emergency Vehicle Operations Course Instructor, child passenger safety seat technician, certified motor officer, Motor Vehicle Fleet Maintenance Officer, and was a long-time member of the Bath Police Department’s Color Guard.
Over his distinguished career, Detective Aucoin received numerous awards and commendations, including five Chief’s Merit Awards. He was also named the Bath Police Department Officer of the Year in 2003, 2012, and 2020.

Detective Aucoin retires with full honors from the Bath Police Department. On behalf of the Department, the City of Bath, and our public safety partners, we thank him for his dedication, professionalism, and selfless service to this community.

Wesley street will be closed to through traffic. Residents will have access to driveways. Detours will be in place.

When: Monday, August 10, from 2am to noon

Where: Front Street, between Broad St and Elm St,

Why: Underground utility work near 120 Front Street.

Details: Parking and pedestrian traffic will also be limited. The early start is to limit the amount of daytime traffic disruption, but will result in some construction noise.

Detours: Traffic on Front St will have to turn right onto Broad St. and take Commercial Street. The Bath Savings drive through/ATM will be accessible, but cars exiting there will have to turn right onto Arch St to Commercial.
