After a scary rescue of a driver from a trator trailer hanging off a bridge over the Ohio River in Louisville, KY, we had one similar in the town of Avoca, NY we responded mutual aid for this morning. Fortunatly not over a river.

PRESS RELEASE:
From Bath Assistant Chief David Dowdle:

Bath Fire responded to the mutual aid request of Avoca Fire and Ambulance at 4:03 AM for the tractor-trailer accident on the I86 flyover to 390. Bath responded with Rescue 1, Truck 5 and Chiefs 501 and 503. The driver of the truck was trapped in the cab of the tractor and the cab was hanging off the overpass above 390N. Stabilization of the vehicle was provided by Fleetpride. A two-pronged rescue was initiated by members of Baths Rope Rescue team from above and the crew of Truck 5 from below. Extrication was completed when the driver self-extricated onto the aerial platform of Truck 5. He was brought to the highway and care was transferred to the Bath VA ambulance. The truck was carrying bags of mulch.

Rest in peace Jim. This Task Force was your dream and goal of yours and you brought into reality. Your knowledge and training will be remembered and used for many years to come.

It is with deep sadness we share the news of the passing of past Chief Jim Orme. Jim had over 50 years in The Bath Volunteer Fire Department and was the Chief for many years. It was his ambition to make our Technical Rescue Team the best in the area and instituted the Steuben Regional Technical Rescue Task Force.

Jim's expertise, leadership and most of all friendship will be dearly missed by us all who knew him. We send our thoughts and prayers to all his family and friends.
