Dr. Rani Whitfield, also known as “The Hip Hop Doc,” stopped by Brownfields Elementary on Friday to share a special moment with our students. Dr. Whitfield read his new children’s book RJ Did It, giving students the opportunity to hear the story directly from the author.

Students had a wonderful time listening to the story and learning more about Dr. Whitfield, his family, and the inspiration behind the book. Visits like this help bring reading to life and encourage our Brownfields Bears to see themselves as future authors, leaders, and lifelong learners.

Thank you, Dr. Whitfield, for spending time with our students and inspiring a love of reading!

Our Bear Buddies started the day on a positive leadership note by supporting our younger Bears as they prepared for DIBELS. These moments of peer mentorship build confidence, strengthen skills, and show the power of students learning together. We are proud of our Bears for modeling leadership, responsibility, and encouragement for one another!

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students recently welcomed some very special guests in celebration of Read Across America. Student-athletes from LSU Tigers baseball — Derek Curiel, Deven Sheerin, John Pearson, and Cade Arrambide — visited our campus to read with students and share their stories about why they chose LSU.

Our students truly enjoyed spending time with these patient, fun, and respectful young men. Their visit was a wonderful reminder that reading, hard work, and dedication can open doors to incredible opportunities. Thank you to our LSU guests for inspiring our Brownfields Bears! 📚💜💛
