OJJ serves youth who have been adjudicated delinquent or Families in Need of Services (FINS).

We are responsible for youth assigned to our care by the court system, either for supervision or custody in residential placement or secure care.

The Office of Juvenile Justice is excited to announce that Irwin U. McCall will serve as our new Deputy Statewide Youth Facilities Director, effective August 31, 2026!

Deputy Director McCall brings over 30 years of experience with the Office of Juvenile Justice, complemented by a Criminal Justice degree from Grambling State University and a background as a U.S. military veteran. In his new role, he will be the second-in-command for statewide facility operations, focusing on the Northern Region, which includes the Columbia, Swanson, and Acadiana Center for Youth – Bunkie facilities. He will also lead key strategic initiatives.

From July 24-28, 2026, members of the Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections attended the 50th Anniversary Conference of the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) in Dallas, Texas.

We are proud to share that during the conference, OJJ Asst. Sec. Dr. E. Jacob Rieux was installed as NOBLE’s Region 5 Vice President. In this role, Asst. Sec. Rieux will represent and lead efforts across Louisiana, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Missouri. Congratulations on this distinguished appointment!

Due to an incident involving an escape and a resulting facility lockdown, all scheduled visitations at the Swanson Center for Youth - Monroe Campus for July 11th and July 12th, 2026, have been CANCELLED effective immediately.

For the safety of all, all visitation is strictly suspended until further notice. The Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) extends our deepest condolences on the sudden passing of State Senator Larry Selders.

Senator Selders was widely known as a dedicated public servant who brought compassion, integrity, and quiet strength to the Louisiana Legislature. With his background in social work and his early career experience working with at-risk youth in group home settings, he held a deep, personal understanding of our mission. Throughout his time in public office, he remained a steadfast advocate for the well-being, mental health, and rehabilitation of Louisiana’s children.

His leadership, warmth, and genuine commitment to lifting young people and families will be profoundly missed across our state.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, his two sons, his loved ones, and his constituents during this incredibly difficult time. May his legacy of service continue to inspire us all.
