I want to help clear up some facts from yesterday’s debate. We unfortunately did have the opportunity to refute much of this last night due to time constraints. Facts matter and we can not rewrite history. (See video in previous post).

- Park Forest Middle was never taken over by the RSD. And it’s not in District 2.

- Lanier Elem was not a middle school when it was taken over by the state.

- Advance Baton Rouge (BRAF) took over and ran charter schools at Lanier Elem, Dalton Elem, Crestworth Middle, Prescott Middle and Glen Oaks Middle while my opponent’s current employer, the 100 Black Men took over and ran the initial charter school at Capitol High. This is how charter schools, outside of CSAL and J.K. Haynes, initially came to north Baton Rouge. No one on my team had any involvement in setting up these charters in our district.

- My opponent frequently fails to mention that one of the three charter schools that was most recently housed at Glen Oaks Middle school after the Advance Baton Rouge rendition closed, actually employed him as a staff member.

- Beyond any of this, my opponent did not explain how middle school students are not able to attend a school in their community when Glen Oaks High has been educating students in grades 6-8 for the last two years.
