Louisiana CASA Our mission is to build, support, and advocate for a statewide network of court-appointed volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children.

The Louisiana CASA Association is the statewide association of seventeen local CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children) programs in Louisiana. Our vision focuses on community supported solutions that build hope and promise for Louisiana's children. Our goal is that every child in Louisiana has the opportunity to thrive, and our belief is the best way to achieve that goal is through co

mmunity programs and involvement of individual citizens. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a trained citizen who is appointed by a judge to represent the best interests of a child in court. Juvenile and family court judges implement the CASA program in their courtrooms and appoint volunteers. CASA has been endorsed by the American Bar Association, the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, and the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention of the U.S. Department of Justice. CASA volunteers offer children trust and advocacy during complex legal proceedings. They help explain to the child the events happening involving the case, reasons they are in court and the roles of the judge, lawyers and case workers. While remaining objective observers, CASA volunteers also encourage the child to express his or her own opinion and hopes about the case. As the state association of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) our mission is to build, support and advocate for a statewide network of Court-appointed volunteers to speak for abused and neglected children. We actively engage in projects designed to enhance CASA advocacy for abused and neglected children. Louisiana CASA provides program support through training and technical assistance; public policy advocacy; professional development; volunteer recruitment support and, awareness, education, and prevention efforts.

Earlier this month, Louisiana CASA hosted a training in Monroe, LA on the newly developed Child Well-being Assessment for Region 4 CASA staff. This training is part of our ongoing Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Initiative, which aims to elevate child advocacy across the state through evidence-based and data-informed practices.

Designed for staff who supervise CASA volunteers, the training focused on how to integrate the updated assessment into case management workflows and how to ensure volunteers are effectively trained to use this tool in their advocacy. By equipping staff with these resources, we’re laying the groundwork for more consistent, informed, and impactful advocacy for children in foster care.

Louisiana CASA’s CQI Initiative, launched in 2024, represents a long-term commitment to improving outcomes for children by using data to inform practice, build accountability, and drive meaningful change. Through initiatives like this, we’re ensuring that every child’s voice is not only heard, but truly understood. 💙❤

This week we were excited to have CASA of Plaquemines Parish, a division of Plaquemines Community CARE Centers Foundation, Inc., at the Louisiana CASA office! Together, we spent the day diving into advocate supervision, best practices, CASA standards, and strengthening advocacy efforts.

As the statewide association, Louisiana CASA is proud to support local programs with the training, resources, and guidance they need to ensure every child has strong, effective advocacy. We’re grateful for the opportunity to collaborate and help our local programs continue to grow and thrive! 💙❤

Higher education can feel out of reach for many youth in foster care. While only 10% may go on to attend college, 6% earn a two-year degree and only 4% earn a four-year degree. CASA volunteers can advocate for resources, stability, and long-term planning, because every child deserves the chance to dream big and achieve their goals 🌟🎓

Last month Louisiana CASA hosted a training in Alexandria on the newly developed Child Well-being Assessment for Region 4 CASA staff. The FIRST SESSION of our 26-27 Public Webinar Series is happening tomorrow!

This opening session introduces the connection between family mental wellness and the prevention of child abuse and neglect. Rather than focusing on one diagnosis or one type of trauma, this session provides the foundation for the full series by exploring how caregiver stress, child development, family history, social isolation, community conditions, and access to support can affect child safety. Participants will examine how prevention-focused professionals can recognize concerns early, strengthen protective factors, and help families receive support before challenges become crises.

This course has been approved for 1 General Social Work CEUs by Louisiana Child Welfare Training Academy as authorized by the Louisiana Board of Social Work Examiners.

This week we had the pleasure of visiting CASA of the 18th JDC in Port Allen as part of our annual Quality Improvement site visits. Serving children in Iberville, Pointe Coupee, and West Baton Rouge Parish, this dedicated team is doing incredible work to provide children in foster care with strong, consistent advocacy. 💙

During our visit, we had the chance to talk about all of the great work they've been doing over the past few months, new recruitment initiatives, and how Louisiana CASA can continue providing support to strengthen their advocacy.

We are grateful for CASA of the 18th JDC's commitment to children and families and for the meaningful conversations that help us move forward together as a statewide network.
