🌧Are You Ready?🌀

This weekend, we joined our partners at the LSU Center for River Studies to help Louisianans prepare for hurricane season.

Attendees connected with experts, received preparedness resources, and learned how to better protect themselves, their families, and their property before a storm strikes.

Hurricane season is officially here, but there's still time to get ready. Visit GetAGamePlan.org to create your emergency plan, build your disaster kit, and stay informed throughout the season.

A special thank you to all of our partners who helped make this event possible. Together, we're building a safer, more resilient Louisiana.

CPRA Chief of Operations Brad Barth and members of our Coastal Master Plan team were proud to welcome a South American delegation to New Orleans for a visit to the Lake Borgne Surge Barrier and conversations about the work being done every day to reduce flood risk and build resilience across coastal Louisiana.

The group, made up of emergency management and public safety leaders from Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Peru, is visiting the United States through the U.S. Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program arranged by Meridian International Center.

It was a great opportunity to share Louisiana's experiences in storm protection, emergency preparedness, and long term coastal planning while learning from leaders facing similar challenges in their own countries.

Thank you the the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East () for hosting the tour and helping showcase the incredible infrastructure protecting our communities.

Exciting News for Louisiana’s Coast! 🌊📣

The Deepwater Horizon Louisiana Trustee Implementation Group is proposing two major restoration projects to help restore wetlands, coastal, and nearshore habitats injured by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill: the East Orleans Landbridge Restoration Project and the Raccoon Island Restoration Project.

These projects are included in the Draft Phase 2 Restoration Plan #8.1, which is now available for public review and comment through June 17, 2026.

The East Orleans Landbridge Restoration Project would create and restore approximately 1,320 acres of marsh habitat and construct nearly 15,000 linear feet of shoreline protection using sediment dredged from Lake St. Catherine. The preferred alternative is estimated to cost approximately $101.2 million.

The Raccoon Island Restoration Project would create and restore beach, dune, tidal, and marsh habitats through sand fill placement and shoreline protection. The preferred alternative would restore approximately 102 acres of beach and dune habitat and 308 acres of marsh habitat, including critical bird-nesting areas, at an estimated cost of $145.5 million.

The Trustees will also host a public webinar on Monday, June 8, 2026, at noon CT to present the draft plan and receive public comments. Community members are encouraged to participate and share feedback as these important restoration efforts move forward.

🤝 Yesterday, CPRA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District signed an agreement to begin the pre-construction engineering and design phase for the West Bank and Vicinity Future Levee Lifts project.

🌊 The project will incrementally raise levees and floodwalls to help maintain the Greater New Orleans Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System's 100-year level of risk reduction through 2073.

🏡 These improvements are expected to provide continued storm surge risk reduction for approximately 257,000 residents across St. Charles, Jefferson, Orleans, and Plaquemines parishes.

📅 The first construction contract award is anticipated in 2029 following completion of the design phase.

🏆CPRA is the gold standard🥇

CPRA is proud to announce that the West Grand Terre Beach Nourishment and Shoreline Stabilization Project has been named a recipient of the 2026 Best Restored Beach Award by the American Shore and Beach Preservation Association (ASBPA).

Located in Jefferson Parish, West Grand Terre Island is a critical barrier island along Louisiana's coast, helping to reduce storm surge impacts, maintain estuarine habitat, and protect wetlands and fisheries in the Barataria Basin.

Project highlights:

✔️ 295 acres of beach and dune habitat restored.
✔️ 144 acres of marsh habitat restored.
✔️ 5,160 linear feet of shoreline stabilization features installed.
✔️ 5.3 million cubic yards of sediment dredged.
✔️ 14,800 linear feet of shoreline nourished.

CPRA also partnered with Restore or Retreat to engage volunteers to plant more that 17,000 plugs of smooth cordgrass and black mangrove to stabilize newly restored marsh habitat.

This award honors the hard work and dedication of the men and women of CPRA, who worked tirelessly on this project, and our promise to never stop fighting for the survival of our coast.

Protecting Louisiana's working coast.

The Fourchon Beach Restoration and Protection project is underway in Lafourche Parish, restoring approximately 6,000 linear feet of eroded shoreline, with support from $2 million in funding from CPRA.

This stretch of beach plays a vital role in reducing storm surge impacts and helping protect Port Fourchon, a key national energy hub that supports roughly 15% of the nation's oil supply.

By restoring and strengthening Louisiana's coast, this project helps protect communities, sustain critical infrastructure, and support America's energy security.
