The official launch of the Louisiana Youth ATV/UTV Safety Task Force was a massive success! We want to give a special shout out to 3 of our amazing coordinators – Northeast Region Coordinator Susan Gentry, Central Region Coordinator Destiny Kunefke, and New Orleans Region Coordinator Jay Cripple, who each did a huge amount of work behind the scenes in helping to organize the task force and launch event. Thank you for your dedication to protecting Louisiana’s young riders!

We are excited to share that Louisiana has officially launched the Youth ATV/UTV Safety Task Force. Following the kickoff event that was held on June 10 at the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries in Baton Rouge, the task force will be moving forward with education, injury prevention, and community outreach.

In Louisiana, ATV and UTV incidents cause hundreds of injuries and an average of 10 deaths per year, with the majority of these incidents involving children ages 10-14. The mission of the Louisiana Youth ATV/UTV Safety Task Force is to turn these statistics around and to protect young riders across the state.

The launching of the Louisiana Youth ATV/UTV Safety Task Force would not have been possible without the dedication and collaboration of LSU Ag Center, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Our Lady of the Lake Children's Hospital, Louisiana Emergency Response Network, and CRM Safety Initiative. Thank you for your commitment to protecting Louisiana’s children and making ATV and UTV use safer for our youth!

A huge thank you to all of our safety partners who participated in the summer safety fun at the Treehouse Children's Museum in Alexandria today!

The “Ready, Set, Safe!” event was hosted by the Cenla Collective for Healthy Families and featured safety demonstrations and activities from regional agencies such as Louisiana State Police, Alexandria Fire Department, Pafford Ems Louisiana, Rapides Regional Medical Center, and of course the DZD Central Region coalition!

What a great day at the 2026 Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force Child Passenger Safety Technician (CPST) CEU Conference held on June 9!

Child Passenger Safety Technicians from across Louisiana gathered to earn continuing education credits, share best practices, and strengthen our commitment to keeping children safe on Louisiana roadways.

Our very own Northeast Region Coordinator, Susan Gilbert Gentry, received the CPS Hero Award for the Northeast Region alongside Michelle Speller of Ochsner LSU Health Monroe Police Department. This recognition truly reflects the teamwork, partnerships, and shared commitment of so many individuals who work tirelessly to protect our youngest passengers. Destination Zero Deaths has 3 regional coordinators who are certified technicians.

Thank you to the Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force, our CPS Technicians, and all of our partners across the state for your dedication to child passenger safety. Together, we are helping ensure that every child rides safely—every trip, every time.
