Louisiana’s economy is growing. Now, we have to make sure Louisiana’s workforce is ready.

Louisiana Works Deputy Secretary Osmar Padilla recently joined 107.3 FM to discuss what more than $250 billion in announced investments since January 2024 means for Louisiana workers and employers.

The conversation covered:
• Preparing workers for thousands of new career opportunities
• Creating pathways for experienced workers, career changers and the next generation
• Louisiana’s progress in labor force participation, with 33,000 more people joining the workforce over the past year
• Making it easier for employers to connect with Louisiana’s workforce system

As Padilla put it: “The announcements are great, but we’ve got to deliver now.”

Louisiana Works is focused on doing just that—connecting Louisiana workers to the opportunities being created across our state.

📻 As heard on 107.3 FM.

Louisiana Works is expanding opportunities for both employers and job seekers through Registered Apprenticeships.

Thanks to a $1,068,595.14 award from the U.S. Department of Labor's State Apprenticeship Expansion Formula Round 4 (SAEF4) grant, Louisiana Works will help employers create or expand 25 Registered Apprenticeship programs and prepare approximately 500 Louisianans for careers in high-demand industries.

Registered Apprenticeships combine paid, on-the-job training with classroom instruction—allowing apprentices to earn a paycheck while they learn and helping employers develop the skilled workforce they need.

Working alongside employers, Louisiana Community and Technical Colleges, the Louisiana Department of Education, apprenticeship sponsors, and workforce partners, Louisiana Works is continuing to build an employer-led, demand-driven workforce system that strengthens Louisiana's economy and creates more pathways to opportunity.

Louisiana workforce leaders traveled to South Korea to strengthen workforce partnerships supporting Hyundai Steel's historic investment in Ascension Parish.

Secretary Susana Schowen and Deputy Secretary Osmar Padilla joined a Louisiana delegation to meet with Hyundai Steel leadership and tour the company's advanced manufacturing and research facilities, gaining insight into the workforce needed to support its first U.S. integrated steel mill.

As one of Louisiana's largest advanced manufacturing investments moves forward, Louisiana Works is collaborating with employers, educators, and community partners to align workforce training, expand work-based learning, and prepare more Louisianans for high-quality manufacturing careers.
