This week, members of the Louisiana State University Police Department had the honor of welcoming and housing the Tunnel to Towers Foundation tribute as it passed through Baton Rouge and LSU before continuing their tour.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, this tribute serves as a reminder that the memory of that day, and the sacrifice that followed will never fade. We remember the innocent lives taken, the courage of the first responders who answered the call without hesitation, and the families who continue to carry that loss with them each day.

It was a privilege for our department to support this journey and to take a moment to reflect on the bravery, service, and sacrifice that continue to unite our nation nearly 25 years later. Honored to be one of the two college campuses visited on this journey. 💜💛🐅

The Louisiana State University Police Department proudly recognizes Captain A. Bodine for his successful graduation from the prestigious School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety in Evanston, Illinois.

Officers from our Motors Division were honored to help other agencies across the area es**rt St. Jude patients and their families to the Dream Day Foundation’s annual Fishin’ Galore event in Clinton, LA.

Fishin’ Galore gives kids being treated at St. Jude a chance to spend the day enjoying fishing, games, archery, s***t shooting, and plenty of other activities with their families.

Our role was to help get them there safely and make the trip in something they could enjoy and remember.

We’re thankful to be a small part of an event that means so much to these families and proud to support the work being done by the Dream Day Foundation, volunteers, and everyone involved! 💜💛

At the Zachary Rotary Club luncheon, Marshall Walters, Chief of Police for the LSU Police Department, addressed Rotarians about the scope and demands of campus safety operations.

The department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with a staff of 60 commissioned police officers and 12 non-commissioned security officers. They are responsible for patrolling approximately 1,200 acres on the main campus of Louisiana State University, which includes more than 530 buildings.

For Spring 2026, LSU’s enrollment stands at 41,750 students, with a daily campus population of around 50,000. On football game days, that number surges dramatically, with between 120,000 and 200,000 people on campus—making LSU’s gameday population the 8th or 9th largest in the state.

To manage these crowds, approximately 500 officers are deployed on game days to handle traffic and security. The largest crowd on record occurred during a Southern vs. LSU matchup, drawing an estimated 250,000 attendees.

Last Tuesday, LSU Police Department welcomed special guests from the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired as they finished up their LSU field trip.

Students learned about safety and how our officers keep campus secure. They also got to experience an exciting K9 demonstration from Officer Gensler and K9 Gilbert and learned how police K9’s use their powerful sense of smell to detect dangerous items.

To top it off, each student received a Junior Officer badge, and got an up-close look at a police car and motorcycle. Everyone had a chance to turn on the lights and sirens and even speak over the loudspeaker! A fun day indeed, we enjoyed having them stop by!

Over the last two days, several of our LSU Police Officers showed up in a big way.

Some rolled up their sleeves to donate blood for LifeShare, which has seen a serious shortage of donations this year. Others got swabbed, hoping to be a match for Little Miss Cate, an 11-year-old girl in need of a bone marrow transplant. Some officers participated in both.

Two different needs. Both life-saving.

Now it’s your turn.

If you’re 18–35, take a few minutes to get swabbed, you could be the match that saves her life. And if you’re able, please consider donating blood. The need is real, and it’s ongoing. Baton Rouge, let’s show up.

The voices behind the scenes that make everything we do possible. Our Communications Officers are the first to answer when someone in our community needs help and the constant support our officers rely on in the field.

They handle every call with focus, professionalism, and care no matter the situation. We’re grateful for the work they do every day and for the trust our community places in them.

Happy National Public Safety Telecommunications Week!

The LSU Police Department was proud to host a volunteer site for Geaux Big Baton Rouge 2026 alongside our partners at LSU Campus Life and Front Yard Bikes

Nearly 30 bikes/scooters were donated to Front Yard Bikes to support the work they do every day in our community. They’re more than just a bike shop, they create a space where young people can learn new skills, build confidence, and earn something of their own while being surrounded by positive support.

A big thank you to our Site Coordinator, LSU Campus Life, and Front Yard Bikes for making this partnership possible. Geaux Big BR& Geaux Tigers 🐅💜💛
