Three measures that were part of the Secretary of State Nancy Landry’s Election Integrity and Security Package during this year’s legislative session were signed into law Tuesday by Governor Jeff Landry. SB 319 helps to verify a voter's identity while providing more ways to self identify for those without an ID, HB 691 maintains integrity of voter rolls with the SAVE program to prevent potential non-citizens from voting, and HB 547 restricts photography of precinct registers, ensuring voters' privacy.

From the Louisiana State Archives: On this day in 1965, Governor John J. McKeithen declared the start of Oyster Week. Although not an official holiday, the proclamation was intended to combat the belief that oysters could only be eaten during "R" months — a belief still present today. Whether you like them raw, fried, or chargrilled, oysters are still a true Louisiana delicacy. Visit the State Archives to view more unique documents like this.

Did you know the Louisiana Old Governor's Mansion houses a fascinating collection of Louisiana history?

Secretary of State Nancy Landry yesterday toured the archives of the Old Governor’s Mansion, one of nine museums operated by the Secretary of State’s Office. Curator Joseph Ricci shared some of the collection’s hidden treasures, including photographs from former governors’ stays in the mansion, personal possessions of former governors and their families, and a stunning panoramic image of downtown New Orleans from the early 1900s.

Every artifact tells a story, helping preserve Louisiana’s unique history for generations to come.

The Old Governor’s Mansion is open and free to the public from 9 am to 4 pm each weekday and from 12 pm to 4 pm on the first Sunday of every month. Stop by and experience a piece of Louisiana history for yourself.
