East Baton Rouge EMS is asking Metro Council to approve a contract that would place automated CPR devices on fire engines across the parish

As a precaution ahead of Tropical Depression Two, East Baton Rouge Parish is making self-service sand and sandbag locations available throughout the Parish. Residents are encouraged to bring their own shovels to fill sandbags. A list of locations can be found at brla.gov/emergency

Today marks 10 years since the July 17, 2016, ambush that forever changed Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge Police Officer Montrell Jackson
East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Nick Tullier

We also recognize Baton Rouge Police Officer Chad Montgomery and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Simmons, who were injured that morning.

Their courage, service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. We continue to stand with their families, their fellow officers and everyone who still carries the scars of that day.

Two events will be held today in their honor.

At 8 a.m., a memorial walk will begin at Baton Rouge Police Department headquarters and continue to the B-Quik on Airline Highway. Participants should meet near the memorial under the front overhang before 8 a.m. Transportation back to headquarters will be provided.

At 3 p.m., the Gulf Coast Brotherhood Ride will arrive at BRPD headquarters. A brief ceremony will follow at the Police Memorial, including the presentation of colors by a combined BRPD and East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard and a three-volley salute.
