A new group of seafood industry professionals has completed the Fisheries & Seafood Leadership Program (FSLP), a Louisiana Sea Grant initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of leaders in Louisiana’s commercial fishing and seafood industry. The program’s third cohort graduated on May 20.

Launched in 2023, the year-long program includes four two-day workshops focused on leadership development, industry engagement, and professional growth.

Louisiana Sea Grant is funding seven new research projects for the 2026 to 2028 omnibus cycle to support coastal Louisiana communities and strengthen understanding of the state’s connection to water from the Mississippi River to coastal estuaries.

This paid, one-year fellowship places graduate students in Washington, D.C., where they work in legislative or executive branch offices supporting ocean, coastal, weather, and Great Lakes priorities. Fellows help turn science into policy and gain real world public service experience.
