Commissioner Temple has consistently highlighted commercial auto insurance as one of the most persistent and challenging segments of Louisiana’s insurance market.
𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵? Inflated claim severity, litigation and legal abuse disproportionately affect commercial operators and trucking fleets in Louisiana, driving up the cost of commercial auto policies in our state
𝗪𝗲’𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲: As reported by the Insurance Journal, a recent report by AMBEST highlights that, at the national level, commercial auto loss payments have grown at more than double the rate of economic inflation. As in Louisiana, this is driven by higher jury awards and increased litigation.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗲? In Florida, sweeping tort reforms have helped offset excessive litigation costs, resulting in average paid claim severity to trend downward.
