𝗕𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝘂𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀: Commissioner Temple explains that although FORTIFIED roofs are more expensive, “I always remind people that once you get a fortified roof, there are discounts that you can get from your insurance company.” On average, this reduction on your premium can be around 22 percent.

Registration for the next round of the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) is officially OPEN as of 8 a.m. today! We will be awarding up to 3,000 grants – each worth $10,000 – to help Louisiana homeowners upgrade their roofs to better withstand hurricane-force winds.
⚠️ 𝗡𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝘂𝘀𝗵: The registration window is open for three full weeks, closing at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 19. Because participants are selected completely at random through a lottery, registering today gives you the exact same chance of being selected as registering on the very last day. Deputy Commissioner Adam Patrick joined Todd Parker, La Dept of Agriculture; Ag Commissioner Mike Strain; La Sec of State Deputy Secretary Laura Seabaugh; and John McGehee, La Sec of State Thursday for a reception celebrating Sail 250 New Orleans. The British Consulate-General hosted the event onboard the Royal Navy’s HMS Trent. As reported by the Insurance Journal, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and others say that a strong El Niño pattern is expected to suppress overall storm activity this season. In fact, experts are predicting the lowest overall hurricane activity we've seen since 2015.

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗱𝗼: Now is the time to 𝗕𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆. Use these next few days to check your deductibles, verify your flood coverage and review your family emergency plan. A below-average forecast is no reason to let our guard down.

Commissioner Temple joined Tommy Tucker on WWL Radio to discuss the 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺. “With the new funding, we’ll have funding to double to number of roofs in Louisiana that are fortified.”

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗶𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Explaining the importance of a fortified roof, he said a fortified roof is a stronger roof built with a waterproof barrier, better shingles and stronger nails. “The result is shingles stay on and water stays out. This reduces your losses from a storm with high winds. If you lower your losses, your premiums will be lower.”
