💜🏠 Welcome home, Ms. Shirley! 🏠💜

Last week, we celebrated the dedication of our 20th Women Build home - a milestone made possible by dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, and a community committed to affordable homeownership.

New homeowner Ms. Shirley, a proud grandmother of two, partnered with Habitat for nearly a year—completing financial literacy classes, earning 255 sweat equity hours, and working side by side with Women Build volunteers to make this day possible. Her perseverance and determination inspire us all. Many thanks to Commerce Title & Abstract Company for handling the closing.

A special thank you to Councilwoman Carolyn Coleman for joining us at both the Blessing of the Build in October and again for the Home Dedication. Your continued support of Habitat families and affordable housing makes a lasting impact.

💜 Thank you to our 2025–2026 Women Build supporters:
This year’s Women Build was made possible through the support of local businesses, organizations, and individual sponsors whose financial contributions and volunteer efforts helped bring this home to completion.

🏠 Funding Partner
This home is one of four houses on Dayton Street partially funded through a grant of Home Investment Partnership Program (HOME) funds administered by the Baton Rouge Office of Community Development.

👷‍♀️ Individual-Led Teams
• Hammer Time – led by Lynn Clark
• She Nailed It – led by Mary Mikell

🤝 Women Build Sponsors

The dedication celebrates not only the completion of a home, but two decades of women coming together to build strength, stability, and self-reliance.

Volunteer Spotlight: Lynn Hitchcock 🔨🏠

When Lynn joined volunteers from St. Patrick Catholic Church Parish on the Catholic Build this spring, it was just one more stop in an incredible journey of service with Habitat for Humanity.

Lynn is a longtime Habitat for Humanity International volunteer who has helped build homes with families across the globe. Over the years, she has volunteered on build sites in Alaska, Hawaii, Fiji, the Dominican Republic, and many other locations around the world.

Her dedication reflects the true spirit of Habitat, bringing people together to build homes, communities, and hope. We’re grateful Lynn chose to spend time on our Catholic Build site and share her experience and passion for service with our volunteers.

Thank you, Lynn, for helping build a better world, one home at a time. 🏠💙

☕🏠 Thank You, Starbucks! 🏠☕

A big thank-you to Starbucks for their hard work on the Catholic Coalition Build! The Starbucks volunteer team jumped in to help install insulation in the walls, an important step in making Mia's home safe, comfortable, and energy efficient.

And as if their hard work wasn’t enough, they also treated everyone on site to delicious Starbucks pastries, which were very much appreciated by volunteers and staff alike!

We’re grateful for your time, teamwork, and partnership in helping move this home one step closer to completion. 💙🏡

🏠 Community Build Sponsor Spotlight: Taylor Porter 🏠

A big thank you to Taylor Porter for their support of our Community Build! Taylor Porter provided a generous donation to help support the build, and their team spent a rainy Saturday completing interior framing on Kiana’s future home, an important phase of construction that helps define the layout and brings the space to life.

We’re especially grateful that Bethany Percle, an attorney at Taylor Porter, serves on Habitat’s Board of Directors, helping guide our mission beyond the build site.

“Taylor Porter’s commitment to the Greater Baton Rouge community goes far beyond the courtroom. We believe that great attorneys are also good neighbors—showing up, giving back, and investing in the community we call home.” — Bethany Percle

We’re thankful for partners like Taylor Porter who give their time, talents, and leadership to help build strength, stability, and new beginnings in our community. 💙🔨

Volunteer Spotlight: Bill Peak 🔨🔨🔨

Bill Peak has been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity since the 1990s, though he’ll be the first to admit he’s not exactly sure when it all began. What he does know is that Habitat has been a constant wherever life has taken him, from Louisiana to Florida.

A dedicated member of the Super Crew, Bill is also a longtime Methodist Build volunteer and donor. He keeps coming back for one simple reason: he genuinely loves the work. “I really enjoy doing the work. I find it fun,” he says.

One of Bill’s favorite moments is attending home dedications and celebrating the completion of a home with the new homeowners. His decades of service and generosity truly embody the heart of Habitat’s mission. 🏠💙

Congratulations to Thibaut and Spanie! 🎉🎉🎉

After more than a year of hard work, which included earning 255 hours of sweat equity on the build site, completing financial literacy courses, and saving for closing costs, Thibaut and Spanie purchased their new Habitat home last week! Even more exciting, they received a Homebuyer Equity Leverage Partnership grant for down payment assistance from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, making their home even more affordable!

Many thanks to Commerce Title & Abstract Company for handling the closing.

Their home was the 2025 Interfaith Build made possible by the generous financial and volunteer support of Albemarle Corporation, United Methodist Foundation of Louisiana, Broadmoor United Methodist Church, United Methodist Church of Baton Rouge, Red River Bank, St James Episcopal Church, and Associates, APAC. Additional partners included The Chapel | Baton Rouge and Fourth District Missionary Baptist Association

Volunteers from these faith communities and community partners worked side by side with Thibaut and Spanie to help bring this home to life, demonstrating what’s possible when community comes together to build strength, stability, and self-reliance.
