September is National Preparedness Month, designated by FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency to emphasize the importance of planning before disasters strike. With peak hurricane season underway, now is the time to review your emergency plan, update your supplies and make sure your household is prepared. The Get A Game Plan App, provided by our partners at the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness provides step-by-step guidance to help families prepare for hurricanes, severe weather and other emergencies. The app also provides real-time alerts and evacuation information when severe weather threatens. Ready.gov also offers additional checklists, planning tools and information to strengthen readiness at home.

LOCD encourages residents to take advantage of these trusted resources to stay informed, stay prepared and stay safe.

Green space restoration made possible through the Louisiana Watershed Initiative’s Buyout Program has helped reshape parts of Denham Springs. The former First Baptist Church site, severely damaged during the Great Floods of 2016, was transformed into a community green space that honored both the city’s history and its future.

Yesterday, LOCD's Genea Lathers joined a panel as part of The Louisiana Chamber of Commerce Foundation's Regional Tour, highlighting how LOCD works with local partners to strengthen communities, expand access to resources and support economic development throughout Louisiana.

The Regional Tour connects local business owners, across all 64 parishes, with critical state and federal resources, networking opportunities and updates on economic development initiatives happening throughout the state.
