There are so many homeless men in Baton Rouge, most from south Louisiana. There are just way too few affordable units even for a temporary housing placement. And now we are into cold weather. I pray that the new Mayor will pay attention to those of us who work with the homeless.... it's not true that they are just too lazy to work. And many of them who are sleeping on the street are seniors who have had strokes or who have chronic health conditions. We need to get serious about housing with services as long as needed.

In Baton Rouge, rent for a one bedroom apartment has risen 33% and rent for a two bedroom apartment has risen 31% between 2020 and 2023. So many people are struggling; many are ending up homeless in Baton Rouge, with no affordable housing for them to move into.

We could really use some monetary donations to have our large AC system over hauled.....the system was installed in 2011, before south Louisiana had to deal with the temperatures of today and climate change.

We are very grateful to Deacon Randal Waguespack from the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge and students and teachers at FRANU for a week of kindness, prayers, and volunteer work at the CAAH Day Shelter. In the heat, they picked up trash, rehabbed the benches, cleaned the windows, restored the atrium garden, brought cupcakes and Italian ice, provided healthy snacks for the weekend for our guests experiencing homelessness, and LISTENED to the struggles that homeless adults deal with, often through no fault of their own.
Thank you again!

We need body wash/small soaps, individual deodorant, and toothpaste for homeless adults at the Day Shelter, located at the One Stop Homeless Services Center, 153 N. 17th Street in Baton Rouge, across from St. Vincent de Paul. Please drop some off if you can. Showers and laundry services are the most requested needs of the street homeless who shelter in our place each weekday as they wait for housing to become available.

A huge thank you today to the Arts Council for sending musicians to the Day Shelter this morning😊....there was a lightness among our homeless clients and a more than one foot tapping!

Thank you to the energetic UPS staff who brought our homeless guests friend chicken, jambalaya, and French fries for lunch today. It was a beautiful day for a noon picnic outside.

CAAH has just posted our job description for a new Executive Director on InDeed. We need a strong nonprofit leader. We also are looking for a maintenance position and will post that job on InDeed in the next few days.
