Louisiana Senior Health Information Program - SHIP

LaSHIP provides free and objective counseling to Medicare beneficiaries to enable them to better understand Medicare coverage options, rights and benefits.

The Louisiana Senior Health Information Program (SHIP) is a Louisiana Department of Insurance program that helps Medicare beneficiaries navigate the often confusing Medicare process by providing free and unbiased information on the various coverage options, rights and benefits available to them. SHIP enables senior citizens, people with disabilities, and their families to make wise decisions when

it comes to their Medicare coverage, as well as provides information on programs that can help lower their drug costs. To accomplish this goal, the SHIP Volunteer Team provides Medicare counseling and assistance via telephone and face-to-face sessions, public education presentations, email correspondence and media activities in communities through the state. In an effort to spread the word about SHIP, the Louisiana Department of Insurance has released a 30-minute educational video entitled “SHIP- Lighting the Way to Medicare.” The video explains how Medicare beneficiaries can benefit from SHIP services and can be found on our website.

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial kickoff to summer, and many Louisiana families are hitting the road, heading to the water or firing up the grill. As you enjoy the long weekend, keep these quick safety tips in mind:
🛣️ On the Road: Traffic will be heavy. Buckle up, ditch the distractions and give yourself plenty of travel time. Remember to secure any trailers or loose gear before heading out!
⛵ On the Water: If you're boating or hitting the water, ensure everyone has a properly fitted life jacket. Never operate a boat or vehicle under the influence.
🍔 Around the House: Keep a close eye on the grill and ensure to keep it away from your home or overhanging branches.
