Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Craig Greene Issues Statement on His Decision Not to Seek Reelection

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Baton Rouge, LA — Louisiana Public Service Commissioner Craig Greene issued the following statement on his decision not to seek reelection:

“When you know, you know. For almost a decade, I’ve worked hard to keep a watchful eye on our utility providers, holding them accountable to keep prices affordable for the many families in our community struggling to get by. I’ve had the chance to meet great people, help those in need, and engage in compelling debates that will have generational impact.

Years ago, my dad taught me the importance of citizen representation in our system of government. He believed so strongly in citizen representation as he served in the State Senate for 8 years then voluntarily stepped aside, choosing to not run for reelection.

When I finish my current term on the PSC come January, I will have also served 8 years. It seems fitting to me to take a lesson from my dad and step aside to let someone else give it a go.

With that in mind, I will serve out my term on the PSC, but I will not run for reelection.

I look forward to spending more time doing what I love most, enjoying my family, and caring for my patients.

Louisiana is full of great, loving people, and I am confident they will find a great Commissioner to serve as the next in line to take a turn.

Serving the people of Louisiana on the Public Service Commission has been a tremendous honor; thank you!”

Today, the world lost a bright light. Mr. Richard was an extraordinary individual whose impact on our state will be felt for generations to come. I was fortunate to have not only been able to call him a friend, but a cherished mentor. His guidance and support have been invaluable to me over the years, and I am forever grateful for the wisdom he shared.

For over five decades, Mr. Richard played an integral role in shaping healthcare across our state, and his leadership at Acadian Ambulance was nothing short of transformative. His vision, boundless generosity, and unwavering commitment to making a difference touched the lives of so many. His passing is a remarkable loss for Louisiana and for all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Please join me in praying for his wife, Elaine, his children, Blair, Beth, Blaise, and their entire family during this difficult time. May they find solace in knowing that his legacy will endure through the countless lives he touched and the positive impact he made on our community and state.

The Biden administration’s war on natural gas— halting LNG export terminal licenses and now imposing requirements on new gas generation that would artificially increase electricity costs for Louisiana consumers— is as wrongheaded as it is expensive. The Biden inflation effect is already wreaking havoc on families' and businesses' budgets. This new government mandate just piles on by making new natural gas-fired power plants more expensive at a time when energy experts across the board are projecting the need for more electricity, not less.

Louisiana is blessed with an abundance of clean-burning natural gas. President Biden’s EPA seems committed to making it more expensive for our people to enjoy the benefits of that resource by using the heavy hand of the federal government to tilt the playing field away from affordable and reliable electricity and towards a future characterized by unreliable and unnecessarily expensive electricity. Bad policy produces bad results, and sadly, that is exactly what Biden’s EPA has just delivered to Louisiana electricity customers.
