The Louisiana Bureau of EMS is committed to continuous professional development and lifelong learning. As EMS professionals, we understand that improving the quality of the services we provide requires us to continually learn, adapt, and explore new tools and approaches that can better serve the citizens of Louisiana.

This week, three members of the Bureau of EMS team, pictured left to right: Katherine Robillard, John Cavell, and Aimee Hall, participated in the Louisiana Department of Health Artificial Intelligence Symposium, hosted by the Office of Public Health in partnership with the LSU E. J. Ourso College of Business Executive Education.

The two-day symposium provided an opportunity to explore the fundamentals and practical applications of artificial intelligence across public health and state government. Sessions addressed trustworthy AI, governance, legal and ethical considerations, AI fundamentals, prompt engineering, quality improvement, decision-making, workforce efficiency, emergency preparedness, and the development of actionable AI policy.

For the Bureau of EMS, professional development means more than maintaining our knowledge and skills in EMS. It also means staying informed about emerging technologies and considering how they can be responsibly and effectively used to improve public service, support our workforce, and ultimately strengthen EMS and public health outcomes across Louisiana.

We are proud to invest in the continued growth of our team and look forward to bringing what we learned back to our work at the Bureau of EMS.

🩸 Prehospital Blood Transfusion Workshop

Sign up today for the Prehospital Blood Transfusion Workshop at the 2026 ATSIP Traffic Records Forum on Sunday, August 2, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the Borgne Room at the Sheraton New Orleans.

The workshop will be facilitated by Jeremiah Kinsman, Emergency Medical Services Specialist with the Office of Emergency Medical Services at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), U.S. Department of Transportation.

This collaborative session will focus on prehospital blood transfusion practices, implementation, challenges, and lessons learned. It is designed as a discussion and learning opportunity for EMS leaders and stakeholders working to advance prehospital care, with a particular emphasis on the traffic records and injury data perspective surrounding prehospital blood transfusion and trauma response.

Because of the importance of this topic to EMS systems and statewide leadership, Louisiana EMS Medical Directors and Administrators are especially encouraged to attend and participate in the conversation.
