Louisiana’s school superintendents are sounding the alarm.

From Jefferson Parish to Caldwell Parish, education leaders are warning that Governor Landry’s proposal to fund teacher stipends by cutting nearly $170 million from public schools could mean larger class sizes, staff layoffs, and fewer opportunities for students.

Teachers deserve permanent raises. Students deserve fully funded schools. Louisiana families should not be forced to choose between the two. Full stop.

National rankings are improving, test scores are climbing, and our educators are working tirelessly to keep our kids succeeding but instead of building on this momentum, Governor Landry is proposing a $168 million cut from public school operations to fund teacher stipends.

School leaders across Louisiana are sounding the alarm. These aren’t extra dollars sitting on a shelf. They pay for staff, building maintenance, insurance, special education services, and the day-to-day operations that keep schools running.

Supporting teachers should never come at the expense of the classrooms, programs, and services students depend on every day. Louisiana can and should invest in both.

We are excited to see communities across our state honoring the values of service, freedom, and civic engagement that have shaped our country for generations. Thank you to Senate President Pro Tempore for organizing this special celebration in Baton Rouge.

The Flag Day Parade & Festival will feature a parade, live music, free food, family activities, and recognition of those who have served our nation.

Former Louisiana legislator Arthur Morrell delivered a warning to lawmakers during House & Governmental Affairs Committee last week.

“Don’t please the president. Please the people of your district.”

Morrell, who served 23 years in the Louisiana Legislature, said this fight is bigger than party politics.

“This is about character, integrity, and honesty.”

Louisianans deserve leaders who represent the people who sent them to Baton Rouge, not politicians chasing power.

This week, the Louisiana Senate unanimously passed the Caleb Wilson Act, legislation written in honor of Caleb Wilson, a 20-year-old student, member, and beloved son whose life was taken by hazing.

During debate on ’s bill, Senator honored Caleb’s family and spoke directly to the pain they continue to carry, reminding the chamber that “we cannot have any more families come and say why mine?”

The legislation strengthens hazing prevention education, accountability, reporting requirements, and enforcement measures to help ensure no other family has to endure this kind of loss.

The Louisiana Senate Democratic Caucus continues to keep the Wilson family in our prayers and stands with them in the fight to make sure Caleb’s legacy leads to change.
