Today, we celebrate Juneteenth—a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and reminds us of the God-given dignity and worth of every person.

At The Christian Outreach Center, we believe that all people are created in the image of God and deserve to be treated with compassion, respect, and love. As we reflect on the significance of freedom, we are reminded that true and lasting freedom is found in Jesus Christ, who brings hope, reconciliation, and new life.

We give thanks for the progress that has been made, acknowledge the work that remains, and pray that our community would continue to grow in unity, justice, and love for one another.

☀️📚 Summer Job Readiness Classes Are Underway! 📚☀️

The Christian Outreach Center is excited to kick off our Summer Job Readiness class at the Charles R. Kelly Community Center in North Baton Rouge!

We are also thrilled to welcome participants through a new partnership with The Grove Recovery Center. Together, we are helping individuals build the skills, confidence, and character needed to succeed in the workplace and move toward greater self-sufficiency.

Through Job Readiness training, participants learn essential workplace skills, financial education, interview preparation, and practical tools for long-term success—all within a Christ-centered environment that encourages hope, dignity, and personal growth.

This week, we celebrated another Job Readiness/Financial Education class graduation in Scotlandville in partnership with the East Baton Rouge Parish Housing Authority. We are proud of each graduate for their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to building a brighter future for themselves and their families.

We were honored to be part of the Volunteers of America “Service, Strength, and Wellbeing” event, sharing about the life-changing work happening through The Christian Outreach Center.

Our team had the opportunity to connect with the community and spread the word about our Job Readiness and Grocery Assistance Programs—offering both practical support and long-term pathways toward stability and hope.

Our Executive Director, Brian Sleeth, also spoke about the impact of our Job Readiness and Financial Education classes—equipping individuals not just to find jobs, but to build sustainable, transformed lives.

What a blessing to spend time this Sunday with one of our incredible ministry partners, Community Bible Church!

We’re so thankful for their heart for the gospel and their commitment to serving our community alongside The Christian Outreach Center. It was especially meaningful to share this visit with two of our board members, Chris Lowery and Christi Wharton, who are faithfully plugged in and serving as members of this church family.

We were also honored that our Executive Director, Dr. Brian Sleeth, had the opportunity to speak in both services—sharing about the work God is doing through our ministry and the lives being transformed.

Partnerships like this remind us that we are stronger together—united in Christ, committed to loving our neighbors, and working to bring hope to those who need it most.
