Baton Rouge, this budget is about PEOPLE first. ๐
At a time when families are asking whether weโre making the right investments for students, teachers, and the future of East Baton Rouge, the answer is YES.
This proposed budget makes one thing clear:
WE ARE INVESTING IN OUR EMPLOYEES.
I want to be very clear:
ALL employees across EBR Schools are receiving a raise under this proposed budget because investing in the people who serve our students every day matters, and they deserve to be valued, supported, and paid competitively.
Here are a few examples.
โ
$21.8 MILLION invested in competitive compensation for all employees
โ
Starting teacher salaries increasing from $50,000 to $56,000
โ
Bus driver pay increasing from $14.20/hour to $20.50/hour starting pay
โ
Long-term driver salaries increasing up to $29.04/hour
And weโre not stopping there.
This budget also includes:
๐ $17.1 million for literacy and foundational learning
๐ $18.8 million for workforce development and career readiness
๐ซ More than $64 million in facility improvements
๐ก๏ธ Continued investments in safety, security, student health, and mental wellness
Today, EBR Schools serves nearly 40,000 students across 74 schools with approximately 5,800 employees, and this budget reflects what our community asked for:
Support educators. Improve student learning. Continue investing in schools.
We are already seeing progress:
๐ EBR achieved the highest School Performance Score in district history with a 72.4
๐ Ranked 10th in Louisiana for overall growth
We are not asking our citizens for new taxes, we are simply choosing to use our cost savings more efficiently.
This is not reckless spending.
This is a STRATEGIC investment in educators, student achievement, safer schools, and the future of Baton Rouge.
Together, we are building stronger opportunities for every student in East Baton Rouge Parish. ๐๐
