Travel back to 1716 when you visit Fort St. Jean Baptiste State Historic Site in Natchitoches, LA! ⏰

The original fort was built to prevent Spanish forces in the province of Texas from advancing across the border of French Louisiana. The fort served as a military outpost and commercial trade center until 1762 when England defeated France in the French and Indian War. Today, you can tour the long barracks building, a chapel and an exact replica of the fort!

Preservation in Progress: Centenary State Historic Site

The Louisiana Office of State Parks is proud to announce the completion of a significant carpentry restoration project. 🛠️To combat natural deterioration and ensure visitor safety, our team:

✅ Replaced the entire porch decking with new tongue & groove boards.
✅ Repaired and restored railings, balusters, and column base caps.
✅ Refreshed all surfaces with pressure washing, sanding, and a complete repaint.
✅ Upgraded the ADA ramp to ensure accessible entry for all guests.

Maintaining our state’s historic landmarks is a top priority. These updates ensure that Centenary remains a safe and beautiful destination for years to come. 🏛️
