What this proposal means:
The current 4.5 mill public safety levy that pays for police and fire services will expire on March 31, 2027. This proposal asks voters to renew and increase that levy from 4.5 mills to 6.00 mills. The additional funding is needed because the current levy no longer brings in enough money to cover the costs of providing police and fire protection.
What else is happening:
At the same time, the Township’s 11-year road levy has been paid off and will end.
That means:
The road levy will no longer be collected on your winter tax bill, and as a result, the total number of mills being collected would be comparable.
