Community Action is always looking to connect with those in need of assistance and for enthusiastic employees to help us in our mission. Our programs and services are for low-income families who live in Barry, Branch Calhoun, Kalamazoo and St. Services vary by county.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 10, the Calhoun County Public Health Department, Community Action, and the City of Battle Creek are hosting the Childrenโ€™s Health & Wellness Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Full Blast Recreation Center in Battle Creek.

This free event connects families with organizations serving children across Calhoun County. Stop by to learn about local health and wellness programs and get information on lead poisoning prevention and related services.

222 homes made saferโ€”and more work ahead.

Since 2018, the City of Battle Creek and Community Action have partnered to address lead hazards in 222 housing units across Calhoun County.

At Tuesdayโ€™s City Commission meeting, Mayor Mark Behnke proclaimed October Lead Poisoning Prevention Month, joined by Emily Arntz, Helen Guzzo and Dan Osborn, Community Actionโ€™s lead abatement coordinator.

Thank you to the partners helping families identify lead hazards and make their homes safer.
