Battle Creek police arrested a 31-year-old Battle Creek man Sunday afternoon after a report of a person with a gun in the 100 block of Pleasant Avenue.

No injuries were reported, and police recovered a firearm at the scene.

Officers responded at about 2:16 p.m. June 14 after callers reported a man walking in the street, yelling at neighbors and acting disorderly. Police also received information that the man had a long gun.

A victim told officers the suspect had pointed a long gun at them. The suspect went into a nearby home, and officers set up a perimeter.

After officers gave verbal commands, the suspect came out of the home and was taken into custody without incident.

He was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail on a charge of felonious assault and outstanding warrants. The investigation remains ongoing.

🚨 COMMUNITY ALERT: Phone scam targeting Battle Creek residents

The Battle Creek Police Department is warning residents after multiple victims have lost more than $20,000 to scammers posing as local deputies.

These callers claim you owe money for missed jury duty or an outstanding warrant. They demand immediate payment, often directing you to send money over the phone or through a Bitcoin machine.

⚠️ Know this:
- Money sent to scammers is nearly impossible to recover
- Law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone or direct you to a cryptocurrency machine

📞 What to do:
- If you receive a call like this, hang up immediately. Do not engage.
- Do not use any number the caller provides.
- Instead, verify by calling the non-emergency line directly at 269-781-0911.

👥 Even if you would recognize a scam, someone you know might not.
- Talk with parents, friends, and older neighbors—and share this post to help protect others in our community.

🇺🇸 As our neighbors gather together to celebrate over the Memorial Day weekend, we want to take time to share some important reminders about fireworks law and guidance. 🎆🎇

Here are some key reminders:
✅ Fireworks are allowed over the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday, May 23, and Sunday, May 24, from 11 a.m.-11:45 p.m. each day.
✅ No fireworks allowed on public property.
✅ Do not hold onto lit fireworks and do not try to re-light or handle fireworks that did not work.
✅ City police and fire do enforce the law, but have to take higher-priority calls first. Call the non-emergency police number to make a fireworks complaint in Battle Creek: 269- 781-0911.
✅ Fireworks can be difficult for veterans, pets, and others. Please respect your neighbors and only use fireworks at home when they’re allowed.
