This needs to stop! Consumers must be held accountable! We already pay WAY TOO MUCH! Where is the accountability?

Consumers Energy and DTE keep demanding more and more money, the MPSC continues to reward their incessant demands, and the cycle of constant, growing rate hikes are pushing Michigan families and businesses to the brink.

My office will intervene in this case as we always do, but we already know the predictable pattern likely to play out: Consumers Energy loads its rate hike request with completely unsupported, inflated costs, and the MPSC simply splits the difference. Michiganders are facing an affordability crisis, and our utility companies are recording record profits.

As a proud gay man and candidate for State Senate, Pride has always been about more than just a celebration for me. It’s a reminder of the giants whose shoulders we stand on, the progress we’ve fought hard to win, and the work that still lies ahead.

Representation matters—not just so we can have a seat at the table, but so we can build a bigger, more inclusive table for everyone in our community. When we champion LGBTQ+ rights, we champion a community where everyone can live, love, and thrive authentically.

BIG NEWS FOR WORKING FAMILIES! 🛠️✊

I am incredibly honored to announce that United Steelworkers (USW) District 1 has officially endorsed our campaign for State Senate!

As someone who grew up in a working-class household, this endorsement hits close to home. My dad worked hard in construction, and my mother worked as a janitor and a home health care aide. They taught me early on that organized labor is the true bedrock of the middle class.

Right now, as a special education teacher and President of the Battle Creek Education Association, I stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our local educators every day to fight for fair compensation, strong benefits, and safe working conditions.

Lansing doesn’t just need people who vote the right way on labor—it needs leaders who actually know what it means to organize, bargain, and defend a contract.

When you send me to the State Capitol as your next State Senator, I will always give workers a primary seat at the table. Together with the Steelworkers, we will fight to:

Today, we mourn the loss of a true Michigan statesman, a dedicated public servant, and a champion for our communities: Dr. Joe Schwarz. Joe’s life and career were defined by an unwavering commitment to two powerful forces: education and unity.

As a physician, state senator, and congressman, Joe understood that progress is never a solo effort. He was a rare leader who built bridges where others saw divides, fiercely advocating for bipartisan solutions because he truly believed that public service means putting people before politics. Furthermore, as a lifelong defender of higher education, his passion shaped policies that paved the way for generations of Michigan students to access quality learning and unlock their full potential.

As an educator, I respect Joe’s example of leadership—one rooted in integrity, listening to all sides, and fierce advocacy for our schools. We honor his memory by continuing his vital work to foster collaboration, support our teachers and students, and bridge the political divide. My deepest condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

Memorial Day is a sacred promise to remember those who laid down their lives in the line of duty. But as we honor their ultimate sacrifice, we must also remember the heroes who made it home but ultimately fell to the invisible battles fought within their own minds.
