Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 100 block of N. Hinman Ave. shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday.

No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

Because of the size of the fire, crews attacked it from outside the home using specialized equipment capable of delivering large amounts of water. The fire was extinguished in just over an hour, but the home was a total loss.

The Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. https://alrt.se/u/6ADDs6sg9oZ

Good Tuesday morning, neighbors -

U.S. and State of Michigan flags are to be lowered to half-staff today, Tuesday, Aug. 18, by order of Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer , to honor the life and service of Detroit Firefighter Patrick Trout, who passed away in the line of duty. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Trout served in the Detroit Fire Department for 12 years, protecting the citizens of Detroit. Beyond his service to Detroit, he also was a retired U.S. Army Sergeant who also served in the National Guard and Army Reserves.

β€œPatrick Trout was a proud family man and dedicated public servant. He was an example of the selflessness and dedication firefighters across Michigan demonstrate each and every day. Let’s honor this fallen hero and keep his family and the entire Detroit Fire Department in our thoughts.”
-Gov. Whitmer

To lower flags to half-staff, flags should be hoisted first to the peak for an instant and then lowered to the half-staff position. The process is reversed before the flag is lowered for the day.

Flags should be returned to full staff Wednesday, Aug. 19.

πŸ€ REDEMPTION ON THE COURT! πŸ€
After taking a tough L on the football field Sunday, our officers (along with our fellow first responders) traded cleats for sneakers and got a little redemption at Claude Evans Park. πŸ‘ŸπŸ”₯

The result? A 49-41 victory in the 2nd Annual Cereal City Hoopsters Game! πŸ†

Don’t let the final score fool youβ€”the Hoopsters brought the heat. The kids kept us hustling from the opening tip to the final buzzer and proved they came to compete.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to play, cheer, and spend the afternoon with us. Special thanks to our teammates from the Battle Creek Fire Department, Michigan State Police, and Emmett Township Public Safety, and of course the Cereal City Hoopsters for bringing the energy and making this event such a great time. πŸš“πŸš’πŸš‘

Whether we're winning, losing, or just trying to catch our breath, we're grateful for every opportunity to connect with the young people in our community.
We'll see you on the court again next year! πŸ’™
