🔥 Help Shape Lander County's Wildfire Protection Plan

Lander County residents are invited to review the draft 2026 Community Wildfire Protection Plan and share their input during a final round of community meetings beginning Wednesday.

The updated plan looks at wildfire hazards across Lander County and recommends projects and strategies to reduce risk, improve preparedness and help protect communities, infrastructure and natural resources. The plan is nonregulatory and does not mandate actions by agencies or private property owners.

Community meetings will include a review of the draft, an overview of local hazard findings and recommendations and an opportunity for residents to provide comments for consideration in the plan.

The Battle Mountain Volunteer Fire Department is proud to stand beside one of our own as Kim courageously battles cancer. We invite our community to join us in supporting Kim and her family during this difficult time, just as she has supported so many others throughout the years.

When people think of emergency responders, they often picture firefighters, law enforcement officers, and EMTs. But long before any emergency vehicle arrives on scene, there is another first responder answering the call.

Our dispatchers are the calm voice in moments of fear, the steady hand that guides callers through unimaginable situations, and the vital link that sends help when every second counts. They are the first first responders.

Now, it’s our turn to answer the call for Kim.

One of ours is in need. As a first responder in Lander County, there's a voice that is behind our radio that we know well. That voice comes from a lady that has dedicated many years to helping the citizens of this community. Now its time that we can give back. We are doing a bingo night with many great prizes. Multiple guns will be raffled off as well as many others things. We hope to see everyone there!!!!

We are excited to bring our new off road rescue truck into our service lineup! Mountain Fire Rescue will help us to provide a better service to our community by being able to assist us in reaching locations that our other larger vehicles just can’t reach. In addition it will also enable us to provide support to properties that are farther off the beaten path as many members of our community are taking advantage of Lander County’s unique sprawling landscapes.

During your visit to the park for the Fourth of July celebration, we invite the younger members of our community to visit our table to collect a coloring sheet. Completed sheets can be returned to our booth and will be showcased in our fire truck bay windows throughout July.
