✈️ MAJOR IMPROVEMENTS COMING TO AUSTIN AIRPORT

Lander County Commissioners approved the Austin Airport runway and taxiway rehabilitation project, an investment designed to improve safety and reliability for airport users.

The project includes rehabilitation of Runway 1-19 and connector taxiways, along with realignment and rehabilitation of Taxiway B.

Funding Breakdown:
βœ… FAA Share: $3,483,517
βœ… Lander County Share: $183,343.78

The county received three bids, with QualCon Contractors selected as the lowest responsive bidder.

πŸ’¬ Commissioner Dee Helming noted that airport infrastructure projects often require specialized FAA-approved materials and construction standards that differ from typical road projects.

During the May 28 commission meeting, J-U-B Engineers Project Manager David Meyer, who advised the commission on the airport projects and bid recommendations, discussed the FAA construction requirements associated with runway rehabilitation projects. The FAA is funding nearly 95% of the Austin Airport runway rehabilitation project.

These improvements are part of Lander County's continued effort to maintain and strengthen critical transportation infrastructure serving residents, businesses, emergency services and visitors.
