☎️ SUPPORTING EMERGENCY DISPATCH SERVICES

When someone calls 911 in Lander County, there is much more happening behind the scenes than many people realize.

Dispatchers help coordinate emergency response across the county by:
πŸš” Dispatching law enforcement officers
πŸš’ Dispatching fire personnel
πŸš‘ Coordinating EMS response
πŸ“» Monitoring multiple radio channels
☎️ Answering emergency and non-emergency calls
🏒 Helping maintain security at county facilities

At its June 17 meeting, the Lander County Commission approved temporary scheduling changes to help support dispatch operations while recruitment efforts continue.

Undersheriff Robert Quick told commissioners that dispatchers handle a wide range of responsibilities and are often responsible for managing multiple tasks at once.
πŸ’¬ β€œOur dispatchers not only oversee security for the entire building… they dispatch for fire, EMS… take 911 calls… and they have multiple radio channels that they have to monitor.”

Commissioners approved the temporary measure to help ensure continued support for these essential public safety services.

Thank you to the dispatchers and emergency communications professionals who help serve our communities 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. πŸ‘

🏒✨ FRONT STREET REVITALIZATION PROJECT APPROVED

A building that has sat vacant for years on Front Street is one step closer to a new chapter.

At its June 17 meeting, the Lander County Commission approved a Business Improvement Program grant to support exterior improvements at 108 W. Front Street, the future home of Patriot Patchwork.

πŸͺŸ Planned improvements include:
🎨 Fresh paint
πŸ’‘ Updated lighting
πŸšͺ New gates
πŸ›οΈ Facade improvements
πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ A patriotic mural
πŸ”¨ Decorative fencing and exterior enhancements

Owner Sarah Edgar told commissioners the goal of the effort:
πŸ’¬ "This is just improving the facade, making it prettier on Front Street and getting it more business ready."

Patriot Patchwork plans to offer:
🧡 Memory quilts
πŸͺ‘ Longarm quilting services
🎁 Textiles and gifts
🧢 Custom embroidery

Commissioner Dee Helming said the project is:
πŸ’¬ "Gonna really help that area."

Projects like this help bring new life to existing buildings, support local entrepreneurship and strengthen downtown Battle Mountain one property at a time.

We look forward to watching the transformation take shape and welcoming another local business to Front Street.

πŸ₯Ž COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR LOCAL YOUTH ATHLETES

The Battle Mountain Gold Diggers 12U softball team received support from the Lander County Commission during its June 17 meeting.

The Gold Diggers are a nonprofit travel softball program created to give local girls the opportunity to compete, learn teamwork and represent their community.

πŸ’› The team has already been fundraising, volunteering and working toward its goal of attending tournaments.

Coach Cammie Holland told commissioners:
πŸ’¬ "These girls have worked very hard on getting us to our first tournament."

She added:
πŸ’¬ "Our goal is to make it to not be expensive for our local families."

The commission approved funding support while also investing in a pitching machine that will remain a community asset for future youth softball players.

Youth sports help build confidence, teamwork, leadership and community pride. We wish the Gold Diggers the best as they continue their season and represent Battle Mountain on and off the field.

πŸ‘ Congratulations, girls!
