The BSPD said a final farewell today to this young firefighter after giving his life in a structure fire. Malachi leaves behind a precious young wife and three beautiful children. Fire Departments from all over came to pay respects today from as far off as Lenexa. FD, PD and Sheriffs have stood watch, two at a time, 24 hours a day with Malachi the last week because we were honored to rest with him and let him know his new world has just begun. Fire Crews rfrom Joplin, Reddings Mill, Tribal Fire, Pittsburg, Oswego and on and on took turns out answering calls so our men and women could keep their minds on Malachi and his loved ones. It is hard to explain the feeling of living in a part of the country where it is literally one for all and all for one. Chief Wixon and Sheriff Groves worked so hard to make this a ceremony that Malachi was proud of. It was humbling for me to see the amount of love these brothers have for each other. I thank Lt. Brown for his service and for laying down his life for another. RIP my friend, my brother. Your shift is over and your brothers will take the watch now. Be proud of your fellow flame eaters as they are proud of you!
