Every fire scene requires teamwork, training, and enough firefighters to safely complete the job. When you see a fire truck responding, many people do not realize how many firefighters are needed to safely and effectively handle a single structure fire.

Firefighters are assigned critical tasks. Each role is important to protecting lives, property, and the safety of our firefighters.

Baxter Fire & Rescue is proud to serve our community as a combination department using both full-time and volunteer firefighters. Our volunteers are dedicated men and women who give their time, leave their families, and respond at all hours to help protect our community. We truly value every one of our volunteer firefighters, and we could not provide the level of service we do today without them.

At the same time, fires and emergencies do not wait for additional personnel to arrive. Having more full-time firefighters on duty ensures that trained personnel respond immediately to the initial call. This reduces response times, places more firefighters on scene quicker, and helps ensure adequate staffing during the critical first moments of an emergency.

The first few minutes of a fire can make the difference between saving a home, rescuing a victim, or preventing a tragedy. Adequate staffing enables firefighters to initiate operations safely and effectively, while additional volunteer personnel continue to respond and assist.

Our mission will always remain the same:
Protect lives. Protect property. Serve our community.

Thank you for continuing to support Baxter Fire & Rescue and all emergency responders who stand ready to answer the call day and night.

During National EMS Week, Baxter Fire & Rescue would like to recognize and thank all EMS professionals for the dedication, compassion, and lifesaving care they provide every day to our community.

We are especially grateful for our local EMS providers who answer the call at all hours, often in difficult and stressful situations, while continuing to serve with professionalism and heart. Their commitment to the citizens of our community does not go unnoticed.

We would also like to recognize the members of Baxter Fire & Rescue who serve as EMTs, AEMTs, and Paramedics within our department. These individuals go above and beyond by providing emergency medical care while serving our community through the fire service. Their training, knowledge, and willingness to help others make a difference every single day.

Thank you to all EMS professionals for your service, sacrifice, and dedication to caring for others. Baxter Fire & Rescue proudly supports and appreciates each of you during EMS Week and throughout the entire year.

Today we recognize International Firefighters’ Day—a time to honor the brave men and women who put their lives on the line to protect others.

This day traces its origin back to 1999, following a tragic wildfire in Australia that claimed the lives of five firefighters. In response, communities around the world came together to create a day of remembrance, appreciation, and unity for firefighters everywhere.

International Firefighters’ Day is observed each year on May 4th, also known as St. Florian’s Day—the patron saint of firefighters. It’s a time not only to remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, but also to show appreciation for those who continue to serve with courage, dedication, and selflessness.

Communities celebrate this day in many ways—flying red and blue ribbons, thanking local firefighters, sharing stories of service, and taking a moment of silence to honor the fallen. It’s also a reminder of the sacrifices firefighters and their families make every day.

Take a moment today to recognize your local firefighters. A simple “thank you” goes a long way in showing appreciation for their commitment to keeping our communities safe.

Today, we stand in gratitude and respect for firefighters everywhere.
