Harlan County Rescue Squad’s dedicated member, Juanita Pennington Cole, has recently been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She has volunteered her time for nearly 20 years for our county to serve all of you and your loved ones.

Juanita’s husband, Dewey Cole, as some may already know has a small business and is self employed. She is a stay at home wife, mother, and Nonna. Without hesitation, we know Dewey is going to put his family first and do what needs to be done to make sure she pulls through this stronger than ever. This is why the squad has decided to step up to the plate and help them through this troubling time. We’re asking for you to join the team, with us, to take care of one of our own.

Juanita will be having surgery on November 1, 2024. After this surgery, Dewey will have to help care for her and take a load off of her due to her not being able to lift anything for 4-6 weeks. Depending on the results after this surgery, that time may be extended.

All of us at the Harlan County Rescue Squad are family. The captain, Chris Allen, is her brother. We are a very close group. Juanita NEVER ask for help and didn’t ask for us to do this. She is ALWAYS the one running to us all we need her. It is OUR time to help her in her time of need and her families.

We have decided to sale T-shirts in honor of our sister to help raise money for any food, gas, hotel stays, etc. that she may need in the future.

At 11:59am HCRS members were notified by KSP post 10 of a traumatic Injury involving a fallen tree in the totz community of Harlan County. 8 harlan county rescue members responded with 1 rescue truck, 1 mountain rescue truck and 1 mountain rescue side by side. Upon arrival squad members along with the Putney Vol Fire Department members located the patient in a wooded area on a hillside, squad members stabilized and removed the patient from the wooded area turning care over to Lifeguard Ambulance service on scene. Squad members assisted ambulance crew with patient treatment and setting up a landing zone nearby. Our thoughts and prayers to the family and we wish a speedy recovery. This was excellent display of teamwork between Departments.

Public Relations Officer at time of last call.

As Public Relations Officer Debbie exemplified what a PRO should be. She worked as a liason between HCERS and the Harlan Daily Enterprise. During which time she served as everything from Reporter all the way up to Editor for the news outlet.

Merry Christmas to all of you, from all of us at the Harlan County Emergency & Rescue Squad. May all your families be warm and safe during the Holidays.

Those who are traveling please be safe and watch out for road hazards and inattentive drivers.

We would love to meet you all, but hopefully it will just be when you see us out in public, not on an accident scene.
