The air quality in Bay County due to the Canadian Wildfires has now reached the HAZARDOUS condition for all people. Please read the guidance below from MDHHS and take protective measures.

Everyone should seek cleaner air indoors and keep activity levels low right now.
🏠 Improve your indoor air:
✅ DO:

Close windows and minimize opening outside doors
No MERV-13+ filter on your HVAC? Use a portable air cleaner
Use the recirculate feature on central HVAC systems
Window AC unit? Close the outdoor air intake

❌ DO NOT:

Burn candles
Vacuum without a HEPA filter
Use gas stoves more than necessary
Smoke indoors
Spray aerosol products

No portable air cleaner? You can build a DIY Air Cleaner:
https://www.epa.gov/emergencies-iaq/diy-air-cleaners
(If you have to go out to get supplies, follow the masking guidance below.)
🚶 Outdoor activities: Reschedule or move indoors when possible.
💼 Employers: Make accommodations for employees to work indoors with proper HVAC and high-efficiency filters.
Contact MiOSHA: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/miosha/about-miosha/contact
File a complaint: https://www.michigan.gov/leo/bureaus-agencies/miosha/enforcement-and-appeals/how-to-file-a-complaint-with-miosha
😷 If you must be outside briefly:
Wear an N95 or P100 respirator marked "NIOSH."
Fitting instructions:https://www.epa.gov/sites/default/files/2018-11/documents/respiratory_protection-no-niosh-5081.pdf
No N95/P100? A properly fitted KN95 or KF94 also works.
Medical/surgical masks = least effective, last resort only.
Cloth masks, paper masks, and tissues do NOT filter wildfire smoke.
🚫 Do not mask children under age 2.
🚨 Seek medical care if you or someone else has:
Shortness of breath • constant or severe coughing • chest pain • dizziness, confusion, or change in consciousness • worsening chronic conditions
🌡️ No AC and too warm to stay inside with windows closed?
Call or text 211 or contact your local health department for shelter/cooling center info — or head to an air-conditioned public place like a library, mall, or movie theater.
