Fall Conference Presenter Spotlight: Sarah Schingeck!

We're excited to welcome Sarah Schingeck from Essexville-Hampton Public Schools to the BAISD Fall 2026 Conference on November 3!

In her session, "Calming Corners: De-escalation Techniques," Sarah will share practical strategies for creating intentional classroom spaces that help students manage emotions, develop self-regulation skills, and successfully return to learning.

With 24 years of experience in education, Sarah combines her expertise in music, mindfulness, and social-emotional learning to support the whole child.

Participants will explore a five-step approach to creating a Safe Place, grounded in brain research, mindfulness, and practical coping strategies. Whether you're looking to improve an existing calming corner or create one for the first time, you'll leave with tools to help students feel safe, reset, and reengage in learning.

When students feel safe and supported, they're better prepared to learn!

Strong relationships are the foundation of student engagement, belonging, and success!

Join Dr. Kathy Snyder, Director of the Midland Area Wellbeing Coalition, for her session:

How to Improve Student Engagement Through Developmental Relationships

With more than 30 years of experience in education and community-based work, including 27 years as a high school teacher, Kathy brings a wealth of knowledge in student well-being, resilience, and relationship-centered practices.

In this interactive session, educators will explore the five elements of developmental relationships and discover practical strategies to build trust, strengthen connections, and create learning environments where students feel valued, supported, and empowered.

Participants will leave with actionable tools they can use right away to strengthen student engagement and school culture!

Fall Conference Presenter Spotlight: Jim Bailey & Melanie Kahl!

We're excited to welcome Jim Bailey and Melanie Kahl from Hemmeter Elementary School in Saginaw Township Community Schools to BAISD's Fall 2026 Conference on November 3!

Their session, "To Hemmeter and Beyond: Building a Magical School Community," takes attendees on a Toy Story-inspired journey through the creative programs, meaningful connections, and innovative learning experiences that have helped make Hemmeter one of Michigan's top-performing elementary schools.

From LEGO Robotics and Esports to family engagement initiatives, creativity spaces, and unique student activities, Jim and Melanie will share how they foster a school culture where students are excited to learn, explore, and grow.

Attendees will leave with practical ideas for strengthening school culture, inspiring creativity, and creating engaging learning experiences in their own classrooms and schools.

A spooktacular time for a great cause!

A big thank you to our transportation partner, Dean Transportation, for hosting a wonderful Trunk or Treat event this past weekend!

Families enjoyed an afternoon filled with costumes, candy, games, and Halloween fun, all while supporting Toys for Tots and helping spread joy to children this holiday season.

Big goals begin with thoughtful planning!

What does it take to turn a student's unique needs into meaningful opportunities for success? A well-developed IEP and a team committed to making it happen!
Educators recently gathered at BAISD for professional learning focused on developing strong, individualized education programs (IEPs) that set meaningful goals, identify essential supports, and help students make progress.

The impact goes far beyond paperwork. It's about helping educators turn plans into action and ensuring students have the tools, support, and opportunities they need to thrive!

Talk about a full-circle moment!

While attending MiCareerQuest at Saginaw Valley State University, BAISD Principal Brian McBride ran into a former BAISD Career Center student who is now finding success in the IT field AND giving back to the community through volunteering!

There’s something incredibly special about seeing former students not only succeed in their careers but also use their talents and time to make a difference for others.

A little purple polish. A powerful purpose. A community making a difference!

Sometimes, making a difference starts with something as simple as painting your pinky fingernail purple!

The Northern Bay & Arenac Rotary, in partnership with Pinconning Area School District, came together to raise awareness and funds in the fight to end polio through the Purple Pinkie Project!

Why purple? During polio vaccination campaigns around the world, children's pinky fingers are marked with purple dye to show they've received the vaccine. That small mark has become a powerful symbol of hope, protection, and progress toward a polio-free world.

What makes this effort especially meaningful is seeing schools and community leaders come together to teach young people that service matters and that even the smallest acts of kindness can contribute to something much bigger.

Thank you to Rotary and Pinconning Area Schools for demonstrating what happens when education, community, and compassion come together!
