Portsmouth Township Fire Department

Portsmouth Township Fire Department We are a paid-on-call department consisting of 24 firefighters. Firefighters are either Medical First Responder, EMT, or Paramedic level certified.

It is the Mission of the Portsmouth Township Fire Department to Protect the People and Property of Portsmouth Township with Quality EMS and Fire Protection in A Safe, Caring and Professional Manner. Portsmouth Township is located in Bay County, Michigan and covers an area 20.1 square miles in size. We have one fire station (Station 18) which houses 4 pieces of apparatus: an Engine, a Tanker, a Rescue, and an enclosed air trailer.

This months training we trained with our friends at Hampton Township Public Safety and Essexville Department of Public Safety. The focus was pump operations, water streams and hose advancement. To exercise these activities we utilized a game called "water ball". Each team sprays water from their fire nozzle to force the ball / barrel across the opposing team's marker or goal line. Teams must control the heavy, bucking hose using teamwork and leverage while keeping their streams focused on the target. It improves hose advancement, communication, stance, and fluid nozzle handling under pressure. Nobody said that training had to be boring.

Thank you to Merritt Twp Fire Department for hosting this excellent Grain Rescue Training. Fire Departments from Bay, Tuscola and Midland counties trained using the Great Wall grain rescue tube to safely extricate victims trapped in grain silo accidents.
