Today, we honor the courage, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the Allied forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944.

On the 82nd anniversary of D-Day, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System remembers the thousands of service members whose bravery helped change the course of history and secure the freedoms we enjoy today.

We are forever grateful to the Greatest Generation and all who answered the call to serve. Their legacy continues to inspire our mission of caring for those who have borne the battle.

For more than 70 years, U.S. Army Veteran Daniel Bremer has reveled in the transformational space music creates. From June 9 – 14, 2026, the lifelong pianist will attend his third consecutive National Veterans Creative Arts Festival.

Bremer has participated in Bay Pines VA’s local creative arts competition since 2022, and is one of four Bay Pines VA Veterans invited to attend this year's festival. He was selected for two first-place musical compositions: one a cover of an existing tune, and the other an original composition titled “Missing You”.

Our new state-of-the-art hospital kitchen officially opened Wednesday, May 27, enhancing the dining experience for Veterans receiving inpatient care. The modernized facility will support expanded meal options, bedside ordering, future room service capabilities, and improved food service operations across the healthcare system.

This investment reflects our continued commitment to providing high-quality, Veteran-centered care and ensuring Veterans have greater choice, convenience, and flexibility in their dining experience.

Traffic Advisory for Veterans Visiting Bay Pines VA

If you have an appointment at the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center campus between June 3 – 5, please allow extra travel time.

Road repaving will take place along Bill Young Blvd. near buildings 1 and 23. While traffic will remain open, temporary delays are expected as crews complete the work one lane at a time.

During the project:
- Parking Lots 8 and 8A will remain open.
- Traffic flaggers will be on site to direct vehicles safely.
- Please follow posted signs and traffic control personnel.

We appreciate your patience as we work to improve our campus roadways and enhance the experience for Veterans, staff, and visitors.

Bay Pines VA was proud to host our annual Memorial Day Ceremony on the C.W.Y. VAMC Campus this morning. During the commemoration, approximately 1,500 Veterans, loved ones, survivors, and members of the community were present to reflect on the gift of liberty that our service members secured for us.

This year, the keynote speech was delivered by Carlos del Castillo, a Gold Star Father whose son – 1st Lt. Dimitri A. del Castillo, U.S. Army Ranger, age 24 – was killed in action in 2011 while serving in Kunar Province in Afghanistan.

Thank you to Boy Scout Troop 334, the MacDill Air Force Base Color Guard, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Honor Guard, and the numerous staff and volunteers who contributed to this meaningful event.

On Monday, May 25 at 11 a.m., we will host our annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Bay Pines National Cemetery. We prepare to welcome approximately 1,500 attendees for the upcoming Memorial Day event, Bay Pines VA Healthcare System encourages guests to plan ahead for parking and transportation on campus.

Public parking will be available in the following locations:

• Lot 1
• Lot 4
• Lot 15
• Lot 16
• Lot 22
• Parking Garage

To assist attendees traveling to and from the cemetery area, shuttle services will be available throughout the event.

Buses will provide continuous rotations to and from the parking areas furthest from the cemetery, including Lots 1, 4, 15, and 22. Additional golf carts and vans will provide shuttle service rotations to all six parking locations to help ensure convenient transportation for all attendees.

We encourage guests to arrive early and follow onsite signage and staff directions for parking and shuttle pickup locations.

The Bay Pines VA Healthcare System Chaplain Service will host the Last Roll Ceremony of Remembrance on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 1 p.m. in the J.C. Cobb Room (building 100, room 1D-127) on the C.W. Bill Young VA Medical Center campus.

This sacred ceremony honors the lives and legacies of Veterans who passed away between Dec. 1, 2025, and May 31, 2026. Families, friends, and loved ones are invited to join us in remembrance, reflection, and healing.

The ceremony will also provide grief-support resources for those navigating the loss of a loved one.
