Kapalama Road Striping Update:

Striping work on Kapalama Road is (tentatively) scheduled for Thursday, April 23, 2026 and Friday, April 24, 2026, providing no weather delays.

The road will remain open, with some small delays and slow traffic.

Please note that beginning Thursday, March 5, crews will be working on Runnymede Road Construction and will continue on through next week.

Expect delays, flaggers will be on site directing traffic while crew are on site.

Dear Hancock County Solid Waste Customers:

We have been made aware that a billing error occurred in our system therefore sending out delinquent notices on solid waste invoices. We understand this situation has caused some confusion and we would like to extend our sincere apologies.
Please disregard any invoices with the delinquent notices at this time. We have looked into the issue caused by our system and will implement changes to ensure the issues do not arise incorrectly in the future.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding your solid waste bill, please do not hesitate to contact our solid waste department at 228-467-4425.
Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience and confusion this issue has caused.

Cold Weather Shelter January 30, 2026
The Hancock County Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Hancock County Board of Supervisors, will open the Cold Weather Shelter beginning Friday, January 30, 2026, at 8:00 PM. The shelter will also operate Saturday and Sunday nights, with hours each night from 8:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
Shelter operations are subject to change if forecast temperatures improve or conditions no longer warrant activation. If any changes occur, an updated press release will be issued.

Road Condition Update
The Hancock County Emergency Management Agency has consulted with the National Weather Service regarding expected road conditions. At this time, no hazardous travel impacts are anticipated in Hancock County for tomorrow.
Rain is expected to move out of the area by approximately 3:00 PM today, followed by increasing winds. Roadways should dry sufficiently before temperatures fall below freezing tomorrow.
We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates if anything changes.
