📚Take a book, share a book!

Jeanette Thompson served as the board secretary of the Bayard Public Library for many years, and went above and beyond in her service, supporting many vital projects at the library. Her love of books and reading inspired the children she worked with as a paraprofessional at the Bayard Elementary library.

When she passed in 2023, we at the Bayard Public Library wanted to create something that could stand in her honor. With funds from her memorial, and with the nonprofit organization known as Little Free Library, we have placed two book-sharing boxes in the community of Bayard. Anyone can take a book from these boxes to read for free. It is encouraged to replace a book with one of your own when you take one, but it is not required. One can be found on the south side of the swimming pool park, near the RV campground, and the other at the flower garden on Main Street (414 Main).

We hope that with the Little Free Libraries, her legacy can inspire readers of all ages for years to come.

Thank you to Utility Superintendent Kevin Fowlkes for building the Little Free Libraries, to City Clerk Shelly Bowlin for painting them, and our Library Director, Becky Henkel, for orchestrating this project.
